Australian Comedian Jim Jefferies On Gun Control

Jim Jefferies be like “I’m all for the 2nd Amendment BUT”:

I really wouldn’t expected that to go over as well as it did with the crowd, they were cracking up.  He’s in Boston though, so that might have something to do with it.  I know I don’t have to point out the flaws in his “comedy” with you guys, because they are extremely obvious.

Holy that was a long 16 minutes.  Please don’t waste part of your lunch break watching the video, then get pissed off at me that you’ll never get that time of your life back.  haha, but if you have it on while you’re supposed to be working like most of you will… I suppose that wont be as big of an issue.

I have to admit the “you’re bringing guns to a drone fight” and the musket joke at the end made me laugh.  Not enough to make me want to download all this douchebags comedy and binge watch it though.

constitutionThoughts?

This made my balls itch. I got to the part where he talks about having your gun in a safe and that is when the itch happened. Pointless douche talking about issues bigger than him.

  2. I was the 20% laughing because they were jokes and some were funny. They were also funny because I know that could never happen. So we ban all guns – then what? LMFAO! Who the FUCK is going to try and come around and take them? LOL And what they fuck are they gonna do – go house to house and search everybody in fucking America? LOL…..comedic babble. Good times! :)

    Lighten up people….

  3. I an really getting tired of foreigners coming to my country an telling me how I should behave and interpret the constitution. Be it, Pierce Morgan, Jim Carrey, or this snide twit with 3/4 of a wit. Let’s look at the Aussie government in macro. If I remember correctly it is one of the most PC nations in the world. Not only are they anti 2nd amendment, they are anti 1st amendment with their hate speech laws.
    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech_laws_in_Australia
Notice the funny man doesn’t make mention of this.
I would be interested to see the stats on violent crime with knives clubs ect. before and after the Aussie ban. I would also like to see the stats on assaults, burglaries and muggings before and after their ban. I suspect they would minic England after their draconian laws were passed.

If he wants to talk about mass assaults, the port Arthur one was 35 killed, 23 wounded. The Kunming mass knifing was 29 dead 130 wounded and that is just one.

    1. Hi all Americans who owns guns,

I am an Australian who actively congratulates our government for what they did for our country.
We have made it very difficult to buy and own a gun, after this massacre, we have not had another one in our country.
I guess the Americans just simply don’t have the BALLS to get rid of their guns. You are all a bunch of wingers from your comments, if you want to use guns, go and join the armed forces, learn some discipline before you choose to think you are qualified to run around with an assault weapon.
Also your 2nd amendment may say you have the right to “bear arms” but against what, and why? It was included in the constitution so that you would be able to raise a militia if needed to defend a defenseless outlying settlement.
I have a feeling you don’t have 2 many outlying undefended settlements – last time i checked you don’t have an active threat of invasion from the British or any other foreign power!!
So as the guy states – The 2nd amendment is an amendment – and the definition of an amendment is something that was changed, or added to.
But I guess, you will always tell me that I know nothing about your world.
I guess you might be right as Australians we are fairly comfortable that we can knock on our neighbors door at 2 am in the morning for help and EXPECT NOT TO BE BLOWN TO PIECES, by a gun happy individual, high on ice, thinking we are the next Invasion force and have to be blown from the planet. All for the rights to bear arms.

Perhaps you should think of the communal rights of others, to be safe, your kids to be safe.

Let hope that you get some leaders with BALLS WHO TAKE ON YOUR GUN CLUBS, so that you can curb your culture of VIOLENCE in your country. And oh year – before you all WIPE YOUR SELVES OUT – as one of your other comments said.

I wanted to live there till i found out what a mess of sphinkter pinchers you english castoffs are. ya we took it away at gunpoint if thats scary to you all, dont come here lookin for a job. As for jeffries like he said in his show he has depression issues that might make gun ownership a bit dicey. Have a wonderfull day mate!

Steve, I am English and I live and work in Australia, have done for the last 10 years. It wasn’t difficult at all. If you found it difficult then it is more likely that it was you. Either you are not skilled enough or just an angry person in general and they didn’t like you. It is a fantastic country to live. More freedom than the US, I don’t care about hate speech laws, I don’t talk hate anyway. I don’t want to carry a gun and I don’t particularly want others to either. They don’t here and that makes it paradise. America is the number 1 place I would NEVER visit, it is far too dangerous, I would sooner visit Iran where statistically it is safer than the US.
I personally feel the US should have travel restrictions placed upon them until they get the country under control. Put sanctions into place (Oil would be a good starter) and then go from there.

Sorry Pal, you no longer live in a country that is considered the best country on earth. It is a third world hellhole at best.

Oh and I am having a wonderful day. YOu have one too.

    4. The data you’re asking about is all freely available at the Australian Institute of Criminology – http://www.aic.gov.au – click on the yellow box marked “facts & figures” in the top right hand corner. You’ll note that crime in Australia is petty low & has been falling for years. The peak around 2000 relates (mainly) to the availability & cost of drugs, socio-economic and sentencing policies. We aren’t ‘anti amendments’, we don’t have them and Americans can do what they like. However, most Australians think that if the type of society you seem to have in the US is the result, you’re welcome to your bits of paper and we’ll keep on as we are, going to movies without being shot and stuff. One of the main reasons Australians get involved in this discussion is that gun advocates in the US keep telling lies about the situation over here – eg. that crime is ‘skyrocketing’ as a result of the gun legislation – so we keep trying to correct the false claims. The Port Arthur massacre that resulted in the legislative changes in Australia BTW, and we haven’t had a massacre since.

    5. I was going to point out how arrogant and ironic the opening statement of the previous post is since Americans often go to other countries to tell them how to live, but what’s the point. American’s cannot face the possibility that any criticism of them could be valid because it might shake their God given beliefs that might makes right and they are better than everyone else. Sad

Shut up you absolute fucking gun nut loser. There is a mass shooting once a week in America, where else is it even close to that frequency? I’m sure more guns will help that tho. What do you need a gun for protection? From who? Who’d even bother trying to kill a complete deluded fucking loser like yourself

  4. Glad that I’m part of the 20% of the audience that owns guns, but realized this was just a comedy show instead of getting my panties in a bunch. Jim Jefferies is the man, and that “musket giving you time to calm down” joke at the end was amazing.

To quote Jim Jefferies from this sketch: “Unless you’re a native American, your a fucking immigrant anyway. So fuck off!” :)

  6. He had a pro gun control episode of his reasonably funny show on FX. it was cancelled just a few days after that episode aired.

  7. Wasn’t a fan of this at all, but thats really just because I’m so pro gun. I watched the first 5 minutes then spent the majority of the remainder of the video developing a counter argument that I would say to him and honestly, it would have been funnier to watch me counter his argument with some facts. If you don’t want to own a gun then don’t but don’t come to my country and try and tell me what I can and can’t do and try and force your beliefs down my throat.

    1. No, it wouldn’t have been funnier. That’s the point of comedy.

      Geez, ligten up Jordan.

      1. The problem is he is like Jon Stewart, in that he throws political hand grenades with a false premise and when he is called on it he hides behind the fact he is just a comic. This technique let’s him circumvent any serious criticism of his views.

        1. Franz, Thank You. You are 1 in 100. I have quoted you to my friends on FB.

  8. Well obviously it’s full of flawed arguments but I was cracking up the whole time. Some of his other sketches are hilarious.

  9. What sucks is that other than this bit, he has mostly good “ranty” material.

He’s a good enough comedian that he knew where he could get away with the gun control bit. It wouldn’t have gone over well in most places in the US.

Then again, most of the entertainment world is anti-2A because their paymasters are.

  10. Jim Jefferies is hilarious. So he has a different opinion, big deal.

    1. YUP. So many cry babies commenting here.

      1. I arbitrarily and without reason declare both of your opinions to be hate speech and therefore illegal.

By the way, one could argue that hate speech led directly and indirectly to the deaths of over 60 million people (2.5% of the world’s population at the time) during WWII. I know critical thinking isn’t easy, but looks to me like dogxhead and Logez could benefit from it greatly. Jim Jefferies may be a funny guy, but that doesn’t mean he can dismiss facts and logic with immunity.

        1. If this is your view on comedy, then you live a sad sad existence. I’m pretty sure that all standup comedians “dismiss facts and logic with immunity”, you apparently are too big of a gash to get over a comedian joking about something you’re into.

The greatest comedians of our age can also be considered as philosophers. Billy Connolly, Frankie Boyle, Jim Jefferies, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Mel Brooks, Richard Prior, to name a few, all use comedy to get their own take on life and politics across. You cannot be a great comedian without being a great thinker and nowadays comedy is the best medium for presenting a philosophical viewpoint.

          2. So is he being sarcastic then?

Jefferies is one of the finest comedians of our era. He provides much needed laughter that is the remedy for our troubled times. Comedians of such merit are rare and we need to think about the irony in society and in our brief lives.

  11. just me that finds him using suicide and mental illness as jokes in a comedy routine far more offensive then anything he says about the 2nd amendment

  12. Bah, all guns must be banned. Knives too. Anyone who disagrees hates women.

  13. I made it to 2 minutes! Do I get a trophy, or some sort of Certificate suitable for framing?

  14. So sad right now, thought I finally found a gun site where everyone didn’t take themselves and guns so damn seriously ALL the time. Most of these comments prove otherwise. Sad times.

Agree Logez. I am saddened that I will never get to see the natural wonders that America has to offer. I will never get to visit places like Yellowstone, Death Valley, and the Grand Canyon because I refuse to set foot on American soil simply because I fear for my own safety there.

I normally just lurk here but as an Aussie hunter/target shooter I felt the need to comment/apologise, we aren’t all like that. He says he doesn’t like lies and bullshit but that seems some what hypocritical as he doesn’t have his facts about Australian gun use correct. He talks like there isn’t a firearm left in Australia but there are more licensed firearms in use today than before the buy back.

What I did find funny was that some of his arguments would equate to me saying that he shouldn’t be a comedian because he doesn’t make everyone that watches his performance laugh.

I’ve seen him before I’ve just never found him to be funny, and with this, it just seems to be feelings and falsehoods masquerading as “facts”. Out of curiosrity I found that there have been 5 massacres in Australia since the 1996 ban, while 3 were arson that killed 46 people, there have been two mass shootings in Monash and Hectorville. I’m also reminded of how there are no guns in Australia:

So much for free speech!
Regardless of whether or not you like him as a comedian. How many of you watched it openly as a comedy act and how many went in with guns ablazing (mind the pun) excpecting a fight?

I totally agree with all of you. His facts weren’t spot on, so good reason for us all to overlook the bigger argument. You’re right, who does he think he is commenting on American issues, he’s a foreigner and it’s not like America ever tries to change the views (or regimes) of other countries. And finally you’re right again, keep all your guns, there’s no problem with them- don’t blame the gun blame the human, guns don’t kill people humans do……Blows me away (hahaha) that you guys really believe that crap. Pretty sure that most of the people (kids) responsible for some of the biggest mass shootings were only able to perpetrate their killing sprees because of easy access to guns. Today they are criminals, but yesterday they were ‘normal kids’ with a gripe and a gun sitting in Daddy’s bedside table.

SO lets keep our guns and keep our America Safe, it’s working really well for us don’t you think?? And while we’re at it, lets bring back smoking in restaurants.

  25. As an American currently living in Australis (for work) I gota say my time away from the USA has really opened my eyes. We Americans kill on average 30.000 of each other every year w guns (for various reasons). Look it up. Isnt that enough to at least talk about guns. Our use. Types of control or at least why we are so deadly to each other? Forget foreigners. How about we face ourselvers?

    1. John Hancock Avatar
      John Hancock

Drug addicts and drug dealers and angry teens and gangbangers in the inner cities kill each other with guns. Law abiding citizens who seek recreation or protection from semi-automatic rifles (not “assault rifles”) do not. More people are killed with blunt objects in the US every year than are killed with ALL rifles. Handguns in the hands of nefarious individuals engaged in illegal activity to the Nth degree are responsible for the carnage. Western Europe and Australia don’t really have a gang problem, do they? Nor do they have a porous border where more and more contraband items and nefarious individuals pour into their country. And yet, for all their precautions, they still have violence (the EC said the UK was the most violent country in the EU two years ago and Australians are being terrorized and murdered with guns still, as recently as 7 months ago).

  26. Like he says “if you’re a dumb cunt and your wife is a dumb cunt, then your child is going to be a dumb cunt with worse prospects than you”, unfortunately your country seems to be full of dumb cunts who don’t understand the problem of gun crime is directly connected to ownership, ya pack of dumb cunts

    1. John Hancock Avatar
      John Hancock

It’s related to gun possession and ill intent, not ownership. Gun crime and all violent crime in the US has been declining for at least 30 years, while at the same time gun ownership has been increasing like never before.

      1. And yet there are those inconvenient issues like massacres. You can cite all the stats, etc you want but clearly, America has a serious issue and guns seem to be at the center of it all. Possession, ownership, whatever, all adds up to a major society issue in the U.S. with guns squarely in the middle of it all, I know it sucks but it’s the truth.

        1. ENDO-Mike Avatar

It’s way less of an issue than malpractice, obesity and alcoholism to name a few.. yet no one gives a shit because those aren’t violent and won’t sell as much advertising for the media. That’s the truth.
