Alpha Dog Silencers – Picatinny Rail For Days

My only question is… when is the quad railed version coming out?

Alpha-Dog-Silencers-Suppressors

Damn son, they did it!  *facepalm*  The Cowwadoody TIER -13 basement dweller operational operations ninja will think this is the greatest idea since black anodizing.  If you’re not part of the temple index / notch hat / forward roll / low speed high drag community though, you’re probably going to think this is retarded… BUT still kinda want one.  Just imagine if you will… you could mount that picatinny axe blade, a video camera,  a ball sack, a photograph of your favorite thing in the world, a ZiP .22LR handgun,  and even some covers for that remaining rail space you just can’t find anything small enough to attach to!  OMG Jeffrey, think of all the love the homies and the ladies at the range will show you.   Will it feel weird having all that weight on the end pulling downward, where your wrist is acting as the fulcrum? –   Pfffffffffffffffff GTFO with your pedestrian concerns, operators are trying to operate over here.

Just in case your hopes were up for adding something as boring as a fore grip like in the picture… the ATF want’s their cut according to the Alpha Dog Silencers Facebook page:

The ATF’s Firearm Technology Branch issued a ruling on the addition of a fore grip to the rail of our Alpha Series Suppressor… A SECOND tax stamp will be required as they consider this an AOW. For those interested in pursuing this, please let us know in advance of your purchase so that we can “manufacture” the AOW for you. If you manufacture it = $200 tax stamp prior to manufacture. If we manufacture it, then transfer it to you = $5 tax stamp!

One of the most shocking things about all of this is that Alpha Dog Silencers actually has a VERY nice looking website.  Heck, if you don’t like the product at least click through to give the site a sniff.

Alpha-dog-silencer-picatinny-rail-lightDoes anyone else find it kinda odd they went with “Alpha Dog” not “Alpha-dog” or “Alphadog”?  Just me?  I thought it was something alpha to silence dogs when I saw the email.

Thoughts?  What are you mounting on your fantasy Alpha Dog silencer setup?

Doesn’t the barrel need to tilt to unlock?

Exactly

I stand corrected. From the website: “The suppressors “Booster” or, De-coupler, enables floating barrel pistols to cycle by temporarily discounnecting the suppressor from the barrel. Being closest to the end of the barrel, the booster housing is subjected to the most punishment as it is subjected to the primary blast of each shot. For this reason the Alpha Dog Booster housing has been designed for the challenge.”
I’m trying to picture how this works.

You could use a fixed barrel pistol. I don’t know of too many in larger calibers though, and none over 380 that have been developed recently.

High point pistols are fixed barrel…

I will have to take your word for it. I picked up a hi point once, it felt like a brick and I put it back down without even racking the slide. I hear they are about as reliable as they come though, if you can stand the weight.

Anything not metal mounted to that rail is going to melt right off or bust into flames.

Putting the foregrip on would turn it into a single-shot, thus reversing sixty years of suppressor development. Also, given that lots of flexing happens during firing, wouldn’t the addition of a foregrip drastically increase the chance of a baffle strike? I don’t know much about suppressors, but I know a baffle strike is pretty much the end of your very expensive toy.

They need sharper Offensive Strike Scallops (O.S.S.) ™ on the front cap. Other than that, looking good!

“If you build it, they will come” err in this case, operators that have to operate will have at least 2 of them.

While fun to make fun of them, I will admit it isn’t a bad idea. Just hear me out: If mounted on a rifle this allows you to both have a bayonet and a suppressor on the same rifle. Any picatinny mounted bayonets available?

On a pistol with a tilting barrel this thing is beyond retarded. Except for maybe mounting a red dot sight on that you zero to use with subsonics or something.

They just went full costa. Also just needs an SB15 brace just so the ATF will need extra diapers.

That would be legendary. Get a full size Glock and my AR15 Glock Stock adapter could do the trick :P

A response from Alpha Dog Silencers when asked what benefit the foregrp would add…

” The only benefit we can see would be for dissabled people who don’t have the strength to securely hold the cantilevered weight of a suppressed pistol. We recieved a number of inquireries from people on how the ATF would view this config, so we asked them for an official ruling. We don’t necessarily encourage the use of a foregrip, but know that people will do whatever they want, so at least their informed with the law. Thanks for asking your question in a respectful way.”

LOL the best part of all that is “Thanks for asking your question in a respectful way”.

Ha. I don’t blame them for saying that. It appeares like many of the questions they’ve been asked on their Fb page weren’t serious ones. I actually stated that i see the value in being able to mount a light or laser, but didn’t understand the value of the foregrip. I was seriously curious. Their response made sense.

Alpha Dog sounds like some $8/pint hipster beer. Oh wait, you have to add in a body part for it to be a hipster beer. Alpha Dog Leg Ale, Alpha Dog Tail Stout, Alpha Dog Nuts IPA, Alpha Dog Head Lager.

Whatever. I can’t keep up with this hipster shit anymore. They never made a “new’ Milwaukee cause the Old Milwaukee is still the best.

Starvinpilgrim January 16, 2015 at 06:30 am

Sadly, Old Milwaukee & PBR are the hipster’s favorites.

“ATF has made the decision that a handgun (but not a machine gun, since a machine gun is not also an AOW) with more than one hand grip at an angle tot eh bore is an AOW. This is based on the gun a) being concealable on the person, and b) not meeting the definition of a “pistol” in the regulations promulgated under the NFA, since they say a pistol has a single grip at an angle to the bore. However, at least one federal magistrate has decided that if the grip is added later, the gun is not “originally designed” to be fired by holding in more than one grip, and thus putting a second grip on a pistol does not make it an AOW. ATF does not regard the decision as binding. The case is U.S. v. Davis, Crim No. 8:93-106 (D.S.C. 1993) (Report of Magistrate, June 21, 1993). The prosecution was dismissed at the request of the Government before any review of that determination by the trial judge.”

The only reason I could see this actually working and being pretty cool would be for SMGs, or machine pistols. They have a fixed barrel and with it being so short it would allow you to have a forward grip. The again you could just use any other suppressor and just put a hand-guard rail around it. Guess it would just make it easier to transition from one weapon to another. Course it would also depend on what ATF decides to the categorize them as.

This looks like it’s threaded onto the barrel. If not, it appears close tolerance. Is that necessary for simply suppressing sound to prevent ear drum damage? My interest is in coming up with my own ideas for products connected to firearms that are not cool but practical. Is that where the market success is?
