Magpul Lets You Ditch AK Wood If You Want To Go Modern

Released in time for SHOT:

Magpul-AK-Furniture-PolymerWow yea, they did a nice looking job on those.  The cool thing about those is since they are bolt on, you can always go back to wood whenever you want.

Good video too… threw some humor in the mix which was nice to see.  Available on the MAGPUL website sooner or later I imagine.

Thoughts?  Anyone calling blasphemy on this? :P

  1. As a HUGE fan of “classic commie” AKs, I still like this none the less.

  2. Wish the moe stock was side folding. The triangle stocks are expensive.

I just want a free-floating AK handguard… and a free-floating handguard for a Dragunov but you guys don’t have a market for that. Seriously, am I wanting too much?

Why do you want a free-floating handguard on an AK?

Because I like free floating stuff, it would improve accuracy, and would make it easier to make an integrally suppressed AK.

  4. I just pray to the plastic gun parts gods they make hand guards for yugos. Those poor little Yugoslavian rifles get no love.

  5. I love a classic AK, when I need a tacticool battle rifle for operating in operations Im grabbing the AR (if I lived in some 3rd world dump that had surplus toppled regime AK’s available in trade for two packs of smokes, then an AK would be my go-to tacticool battle rifle, but I don’t).
The only strong advantage I see here is you will now be able to mount Costa figurines on your AK.

    1. And who wouldn’t want that? Hmm?

Who makes a good 5.56/.223 AK that would accept all this furniture? I’d consider 7.62*39 but I’m so loathe to keep my caliber count down. I really like sticking with .223 & .308.

    1. Arsenal make’s a 5.56/.223 variant. I have multiple 7.62×39 rifles of theirs and they are outstanding. They are a lot higher priced than most because you’re getting a brand new rifle (not pieced together by spare parts) and the quality is higher than most. Search for Arsenal SLR-106 – there are a lot of different models to choose from but they are chambered in 5.56/.223.

        Cool thanks!

  7. Wish they’d have turned the guns over so we could see if they require removing the handguard cap/sling loop.

And at the end of the day, it’s still a stamped, press-fit, and riveted together pile of junk that beats itself apart.

  9. Why does everyone insist on making a side folder that folds to the right side (where the bolt handle is)? It’s a pain in the ass to manipulate the bolt with the stock in the way. Make an underfold or a left side fold and I’d consider it for my commie rifle, otherwise I’ll stick with my original stock.

because the stock optic mount is attached to the left side of the rifle and if a rifle has one then the stock would not fold at all

  10. I love their “traditional methods”

  11. MOE stock with the Zhukov handguard, please.

I like the Valmet-ish look of the MOE stock

  13. I’m old school when it comes to AKs but I would consider the MOE stuff. Of course, if AKs weren’t prohibited by name rifles in Canada. Sigh.

  14. LOL – love the Putin picture and the Vodka. I don’t own an AK but if I did these would be on my list.
