Brawl Shows That Airsoft Is Serious Business

Keep telling your mom airsoft is safe:

Wow, right?  All over some plastic BBs.  I didn’t realize people fought over airsoft and paintball, but a quick YouTube search shows it’s definitely taken a lot more serious than I thought.

Airsoft-MemeThis video in the post was actually removed from YouTube initially.  Lucky I watched and saved it ahead of time.  Doesn’t really matter though now that someone else re-upped it. I bet this particular video was removed because someone didn’t want the evidence of them flipping out and hitting people, used against them.  Funny how the fight still seemed to be going on even after the camera cut out.

Thoughts?  Anyone run into this type of thing in their own airsoft or paintball games?

Gat tip: no uno

  1. I really hoped I would see these weekend operators beating up some 14 year old LARP crossover kid. It looked like a frat party I was a back in ’96, a bunch of dudes who mistake fat for muscle, where everyone went into melee mode.

      Vid of melee? Haha

      1. ’96, a camcorder was like 9lbs and held on the shoulder. Cell phone were still mounted in cars.

  2. While shit never got that bad where I used to airsoft this is the type of shit that made me have the “NOPE done with this shit” moment. I do not know if its the play fighting or something else but there is definitely a noticeable group of people who show up to airsoft who will default to rage if things don’t go just right or there is some sort of personality conflict.

  3. If it is any indication, the insurance rates for Airsoft/Paintball clubs are astronomical. The rates for real firearms clubs are pretty low due to the maniacal enforcement of the safety rules. First time I heard this, I thought they were pulling my chain, but it was not.

Then again, it is tough to act like a bully when your intended target or friends can kill you deader than dinosaurs. A polite society and all that.

The safety at most paintball venues is atrocious. People treat their markers like they are nerf guns that are incapable of creating injury. In reality, you can get really fucked up by a paintball if you get hit with your mask off, or if some d-bag cranks up their velocity past 300 fps. I have seen NDs and improper barrel plugging/covering so many times and most of the time the perpetrator just laughs and shrugs it off. Not to mention you are dealing with what are often jankily constructed systems that run on liquid CO2 or 3000 psi air.

I enjoy paintball in theory but I have a hard time with it for similar reasons. Number one is the bullshit attitude and lack of safety with the markers. If these adults and children treat the markers that way it is probably what they will default to if handed a real gun. I don’t care if there is some piece of shit cloth over the muzzle, you still can’t flag everybody in the “masks off” area with your finger on the trigger. It pisses me off and it seems like paintball as a whole reinforces unsafe firearm handling.

Also there’s the players with such of a combat warrior ego that they run around a pants busting erection under the guise that they’re a real life call of duty operator. These are the most dangerous and disillusioned types. They’re too far gone to reason with and should be avoided at all costs.

I think paintball could be a lot of fun but I’m really not interested in the “paintball culture” and the fantasy ego assholes associated with it.

None of that shit would fly at an actual shooting event. Much more relaxed and safe environment, other mature adults, real guns, no fantasy crap, etc.

Ugh yea sounds like a recipie for disaster. I’ve only paintballed twice and it wasn’t very hardcore

Damn that’s crazy re the insurance. I had no idea.

  4. I have always loved paintball. But I seldom saw fights break out there, because when you get hit you get marked and there can’t really be a dispute about it (except when you cap someone point blank – that causes fights). But with airsoft, it’s hard to confirm that a target was hit and so you have all these pathetic assholes running around, pretending to operate, lying about being hit, and then getting all righteously indignant that they’re being called out. I’ve personally never… er… airsoft-ed? (sic) and I just don’t think I can bring myself to invest in that culture.

My thoughts exactly. Airsoft is just a form of make believe LARP fantasy for 14 year old Mountain Dew/Cheeto enthusiasts. You have to be a proper cawadoody toolbag to actually be into this shit as an adult.

Paintball is fun out in the woods. I’ve played speedball numerous times and it’s basically just a competition of who spent the most money on their gun. I’d consider playing speedball again if everyone was issued a pump gun and a total of 50 balls per match.

      1. Hey, whatever makes you feel warm and superior at night.

        1. So, how much did you spend on your airsoft rifles Bear?

          1. All together over the years? Probably 2 grand or so. Not too bad. I decided on airsoft instead of paintball for the look, the (waaaay) lower cost of maintenance and ammo, and the fact it hurts a hell of a less to get hit which bars entry to new people less.

  5. I was in a Speedball (Paintball) tournament in Ohio a few years back, and some guys didn’t agree with them being called out so they attacked one of the Refs. I have also seen people in Woodsball, mainly because of cheating.

  6. Man, different culture than when I was in paintball back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. We used to play all day, getting our asses handed to us, or on occasion winning a round. It was all just fun, even losing was fun and usually you learned something from it. Never once saw a fight break out in all the time I did it.

    Seriously, that’s messed up.

  7. I used to paintball a lot in high school. We had a pretty big group for being a really small school, and a couple of dads played with us. However, if there was a sportsmanship issue, it was with one dad in particular. He couldn’t deal with losing, started building a super expensive marker, still lost, went even more ballistic. Honestly, I would still play if it was cheap and people still did woods ball. The woods fields near me all got bulldozed and turned into multiple speedball fields. Also, paintball is SUPER expensive. My USPSA habit is less expensive than paintball, and there’s really no sportsmanship issues and I don’t look like a LARPer.

  8. If you get competitive and serious about a game that has to be based 100% on the honor system, you get this.

    1. ENDO-Mike Avatar

      Haha truth.

  9. Wherever there are guys and competitive sports mixed together, there will be adrenaline-fueled arguments. I’m an avid paintball enthusiast, love playing with my friends, and have seen firsthand how it can get out of hand very quickly. Again, it’s a competitive sport (regardless of whether or not you consider people like me losers for daring to enjoy shooting people with things that don’t kill them), and all it takes is someone cheating or breaking the rules to get people fired up. At least in our group, it’s never come to blows, but something like this doesn’t surprise me in the least. If you looked at it more like a hockey brawl, you might actually enjoy watching the video…

I once flanked/used a stun stick on some guys who were cheating and pinning down my team. I got banned from the game but we still won. Chinese/Hong Kong Airsoft is serious business.

I’ve only played paintball with friends in the woods and only had 1 incident where I was ‘almost’ in a fight. A casual friend cheated and lit me up, knocking me out of the game. As I was walking off, I realized what he had done and went back to kick his ass over it. As I approached him, he came out of cover, something clicked in me, and I just shot him 5-6 times at fairly close range (the kind of range that’s gonna leave a mark). Kind of took the wind out of me as in my mind this made us ‘even’. He didn’t push the issue (i wasnt picking on him either as he was 40# bigger and 20 yrs younger- we’re both well growed adults….well most of the time).
Honestly, I still don’t view my incident as anything other than typical in-game sports fights between friends. Happens all the time, no biggie. Have a beer after its over. But I’m a hockey player, so maybe its different in other cultures.

What i saw in this video isn’t acceptable. That 14yr old v grown large adult aint right.

  12. This is what happens when you don’t own a massage chair.

  13. Used to Ref at a local paintball park in California and saw this every weekend. Particularly when reffing airsoft games..

  14. Punching the kid wasn’t so good, but from the looks of it he was in the fight anyways, so maybe he deserved it. Guy filming should have started buttstroking mofos until it broke up.
Good thing everyone had their knockoff Ops-Core/Team Wendy Helmet from China to protect them.

    1. Well the video description says the 14 year old got KO’d, which is a bit harsh. Damn though that would never go down at a gun range…

      1. I was at the local gun range ShootSmart in Grand Prairie, Tx about 2 weeks ago and apparently 2 people got kicked out because they almost got into a fight in the shooting lanes. Sounds fucking ridiculous but thats why I pay the few extra bucks and get a suite, though im usually more worried about a ND then a fight or shootout breaking out.
By the way the staff was great, they apologized and comped everybodys fees including lanes, targets, and rentals.

Nice of the range to do that. I hate when ranges see someone being unsafe, give them a warning, that person/group keeps being unsafe, and the range continues to only wag their fingers and not do anything about it, thereby keeping everyone else endangered by the jackasses.

Those airsofters in the video were… damn. That one guy needs to go get his ass caved-in in MMA. “WHO WANTS TO FIGHT!??!?!” <—- uhhh just you dickhole, everyone else was there to play airsoft.

The only reason I can see myself doing airsoft is solo, to do drills for 3-gun at home.

          1. Sticks and stones man, he’s just venting, let him vent.

        2. I stand corrected then. Still crazy…

  16. Don’t start no stuff, won’t be no stuff with SMGLee’s crew. Golden rule of airsofting that was clearly forgotten by the instigator here.

  17. Back in my old gaming shop hangout days, I wound up having to break up a fight at a PokeMon tournament.

And yes with adults playing. (I quit gaming after I got new allergy medication and realized what “gamer funk” was.)

  18. Grown men playing paintball, pshh. They should do some Force on Force; you wont want to get close enough to someone to fight them.

  19. Airsoft is a pretty macho game, the skills you learn there are fairly transferable to CQB with real guns, and the scenarios quite realistic. The only way you’d get training on that par is with the military paying for it, expensive exclusive clubs that probably only allow ex-military or a cqb course costing alot of money.

As for the insurance costs the injuries are much more likely sprains , strains and bruises from the amount of dynamic movement they do over rugged terrain. Climbing over walls, diving for cover etcetera. In contrast due to safety reasons movement is restricted on ranges with real firearms.

Probably the most hardcore airsoft is in japan where they aren’t allowed to own firearms.

    3. The “skills” picked up from CQB airsoft aren’t transferable to shit.

      1. @Kevin, bullshit. I can still cry mommy when I’m losing. Stfu noob.

  20. That’s nothing. Tiddlywinks at the competition level gets very violent. Once saw a guy get stabbed over a match. And I was told it wasn’t his first time that happened either.

  21. It’s not airsoft, it’s milsim. /sarc

  22. I wish the camera man would have just told everyone there to calm down, that would have resolved the fight without further violence.

    1. Lol… if only.

  23. Needs more “WUURLD STAH, WUURLD STAH, FIGHT FO YO LIFE!”

  24. If only they could take up a relaxing sport so that they could take out their aggression amicably…
