Polenar V.S. Funker Beef PLUS Experimental Krav Maga & Firearms

This video takes itself pretty seriously (ya I suppose it is a serious topic), but is a good watch for sure:

Is that Krav Maga they are doing at the beginning in the boxing-style ring?  I was in Judo for a little while when I was younger, and I remember thinking all I wanted to do was to learn how to kick people across a room, and throw haddoukens, what did I get?  I got to roll around on the ground with stinky kids +/- a few years my age and practice holds, leg sweeps, and carefully planed over the shoulder throws.  So disappointing.  I literally thought I’d learn how to kill someone with my bare hands by the end of week one.  I was crushed when that didn’t happen.

6:12 – I always wonder how pulling back on force when training would actually effect your performance in real life.  What do studies show?  If you’re trying not to hurt the guys you’re training with you’d maybe default to that without really thinking about it in a life threatening situation?

6:44 – That scan tho.  No temple index!  2/10 would not operate with. :P

8:45 – It appears like he puts the loaded gun right against his palm *ahhhhhhhhhh*:

Possible-Gun-Against-Palm

Please watch it in 0.25x and assure me that’s the camera angle fooling me.  I want to believe you.  It’s pretty blurry, but looks like he possibly even had his finger inside the trigger guard at that point.

9:55 – Is standard practice when taking a gun off someone to always load it, and likely waste a round since normally people carry loaded guns?  Why would that Asian dude be sticking up someone with an empty gun?

Funker Tactical is a really awesome group of guys seemingly, who definitely have a lot of fun making their vids.  I think great for them… I watch most of their vids I’m really happy they have a massive audience, and hope they continue to be successful.  Funny enough they fired some shots at our Slovenian boys Polenar Tactical on Facebook last night.  Apparently they don’t have a sense of humor regarding Polenar poking fun at their bro Instructor Zero regarding some funny pics he staged, which Polenar I guess had an unwarranted (apparently) “opinion on”.  I love when people send me stuff like this because I just fire up the popcorn machine and watch the comments and back and forth.

Some heat from the last paragraph on the linked facebook post:

We believe the reason for the animosity against us (Funker Tactical) and IZ (Instructor Zero) is that the Polenar guys are firearms instructors themselves and they may believe the best way to the top is by stepping on others on the way up.

haha whaaaaaaaT?  Serious business.  I didn’t realize there was a “top” and a power struggle in YouTube firearms videos, much less any sort of competition at all between what Funker Tactical does and what Polenar Tactical does.  Not even taking into account that Polenar lives and opeates on the other side of the ocean.  I just hope this beef doesn’t end in someone taking a bullet on the Las Vegas strip, Tupac style next SHOT show.  Can’t we all just get along?

Thoughts?  Do you sprinkle any sort of seasoning on your popcorn when viewing internet drama?  What type of popper do you use?  Do you use butter, or are you onto that artisanal olive oil mist game like I am? (shoutouts to MISTO for the illest misters in the game right now)

Gat tip: Matt, Polenar

  1. Damn they strait beef’n up in there on the book of face. Also, judo ain’t no joke. Some MMA fighters in UFC made people look like fools just hip tossing people like they were rag dolls.

Ok ya I suppose my minor judo stint was not representative of the discipline as a whole haha

      1. There is no fear in this dojo!

Uhh, excuse me, the line is actually: “Fear does not exist in this dojo, does it?”

          1. Family Guy version paraphrased it…which is way fresher in my mind LOL. SWEEP THE LEG!

  2. Re: racking slide. Two reasons – one – yes some people might not have round in chamber when using it in a crime. Criminals aren’t real smart, and don’t you know that Steven Seagal always has time to put a round in chamber before shit gets real? Second – if you’re struggling for that gun it might have gone off with obstructed slide, been jostled (“combat is full of jostling”), come out of battery, be a piece of crap, etc. So you typically do an immediate action drill with a little tap & rack to ensure that it’s good to go again.

      Ok Yea makes sense!

  3. Ya, I agree with Tito that if I got a pistol off of a bad-guy, (post-jostle for their bang-stick) in lieu of doing a press-check, I would probably perform a tap-rack, and go to work.

Regarding this comment: “6:12 – I always wonder how pulling back on force when training would actually effect your performance in real life. What do studies show? If you’re trying not to hurt the guys you’re training with you’d maybe default to that without really thinking about it in a life threatening situation?” That is a great question and if any studies have been done, what were the results?

  4. on the beef with Polinar and Funker Tactical aka a vehicle to promote Instructor Zero, I am always left asking why should I take military personnel seriously when their gov finds doing things like bribing their enemy not to fight them as an acceptable strategy. http://www.theweek.co.uk/politics/19187/french-died-after-italian-troops-paid-taliban

Secondly on the video seems more legit then some of the other stuff Funker posts.

    1. As a side note just thinking about this as the link to the Facebook Feud has gotten good when James “I challenge you to a Duel” Yeager handles being made fun of better than you, you may need to reassess how you are acting just a suggestion.

I was hoping that was a gag site you posted :(

      1. nope I wish it was a gag site.

but on topic thanks for the delicious drama i only wish I had popcorn for the Polanar response as it was so good it pissed off Funker Even more.

FYI, paying off Sunni insurgents/AKA Sons of Iraq was a key part of David Patreaus’ surge in Iraq. Huge sums of U.S. money were used to turn enemies into ‘allies’ and drive a wedge between Iraqi insurgents and AQI. Granted it was, or at least argued as, part of a larger plan to draw Sunnis to the leadership table, but bribes are not an isolated incident.

        1. We also had expectations that the Sunni’s would be trained by us and fight with us or at least supervised by us. As opposed to the Italians who were paying the people they were there to fight to well not show up, not to train with the Italians to be peace keepers, but instead the Taliban was just paid to go fight the other ISAF nations some place other than where the Italians were.

Yes, pretty egregious what the Italians decided to do on their own, and yes a bit different from what the U.S. did in Iraq.

          2. Where those actually realistic expectations Dan or just wishful thinking?

            1. clearly they were fairly realistic Expectations as it was effective till the Iraqi gov fired their leaders refused to pay them.

The Funker guys are great, and put out quality videos consistently, but c’mon, lighten up fellas. I’m sure Polenar was just goofing around; they seem to have a good sense of humor, and have put out some funny videos, like “Many uses of an AK magazine” http://youtu.be/xjeiCbVUEyA

It also doesn’t hurt that Ziga’s girl is remarkably easy on the eyes. Really though, no need for beef, I think it was all in good fun and the pro 2A community needs to stick together. On a side note, Zero has mad skills, no doubt about it, and I bet he’s a chill dude to hang with, but he is kind of a parody unto himself. Dan G makes a good point on the promotional aspect of it as well.

I can’t stand guys who do the front cocking like the guy does at 8:45. Someone, somewhere, is going to do a bad thing and lose some fingers.

Don’t even do it for a press check, if you don’t know if your gun is loaded train to just rack the slide.

  7. Please don’t hate, but can someone please explain to me Instructor Zero’s bio or past Mil/LEO experience etc.?

No hate, just trying to figure this one out so I can sleep at night.

    1. about half way down on this site has the two different tellings of his resume make of them what you will http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?9535-Instructor-Zero/page11

      1. Appreciate your time and effort, Dan. It gave me closure.

IZ with FT have played this VERY well. With playing it safe, a difficult-to-verify background, no proclaiming he is anything special, they keep feeding and live good on the “operator” presentation of IZ, and with his bio making the implication he is a former “operator” of some sort for the unknowingly. It keeps feeding the assumptions and thoughts to the huge d**k riders and the unknowingly that he is former operator with time down range to back it up.

They have played it very well, as he can’t be “caught”, as they always pull the “because he doesn’t want to talk about his past” card when asked, therefore never claimed IZ to be anything or anyone. Vaguely keeping on with it.

I like it. It’s clever and very thought out. His retarded what not obviously advertisements brings in good cash to the bank too.

I got one red flag to question, though I may not ever get an answer, or maybe FT chime in to bust my balls; From what they can share about IZ bio, one point was

“Former Instructor 5th Assault Battalion, Italian Military – Folgore Parachute Brigade”

Then again, apparently, he only did 12 month conscript duty in that unit as for being IZ’s complete Mil. experience. Was he a PFC and become a Sgt by those 12 month? or was he a, say, sports officer? therefore theoretically a “instructor” etc.

        The mystery continues…

  8. the youtube is serious bizness, just ask tactical keyboard cat.

    less bickering more manca
