Glock 43 Single Stack 9mm Got Me Feeling Some Type Of Way

Seriously guys.  I think I teared up a little like a proud dad seeing his newborn baby for the first time… it’s beautiful:

Glock-Single-Stack-9mm-G43

Glock-Single-Stack-9mm-G43-Technical-DataOh lawwwwwwd.  Would operate with 10/10.

Why this didn’t happen before the G42 .380 single stack sub-compact I’ll never understand.  I just have to assume Glock is smarter than I am and know what they are doing.  I suppose that .380 though, if nothing else created outrage and caused even more THIRST for this G43 single stack 9mm.  I don’t remember false hope, disappointment, thirst, then release being marking steps we learned in school but hell it seems to work awesome.

Basically if Glock released a rifle, fanbois would have to find something else to complain about Glock not doing.  The rifle is definitely long overdue, I think we can all agree on that.

Thoughts?

  2. I am sure they will sell a lot of these, but there are already so many happy Kahr, S&W Shield, Ruger LC9S and Beretta Nano owners out there that I am not sure they will all want to start over (sights, holsters, mags, etc.) with a gun that costs more, has less capacity and in some cases is larger. Plus Glock is no longer known for being 100% reliable out of the box. That ended with the Gen4 and was revisited with the G42. Glad to see that they are starting to at least vaguely listen to customers and produce products that are kinda somewhat like they have been demanding for 25+ years now. Maybe the Gen5 or Gen6 versions of the G19 will have replaceable back-straps that actually make a difference in grip size and shape! Fingers crossed.

Glock’s clearly not as smart as some want to give them credit for (I don’t have any particular love or hate for Glock). They’re in a position of playing catch-up to not lose market share to potential competition (S&W, H&K, SIG, etc.). When other companies are offering newer designs that are in the same price range, just as reliable (or at least as reliable than a Gen 4…), better triggers/ergonomics, etc., it’s time to up your game. Or hire more strippers to market to LEOs…whatever works.

I would vehemently object to your characterization. I think Glock was late to the single stack game, in general, but when they decided to jump in, their plan was absolutely brilliant. They probably sold MILLIONS of G42s. Who the hell buys a single stack .380? Someone who reeeeeeeally wants a single stack 9mm Glock-brand-Glock, but can’t get it. Plus women are joining our ranks more, so make yourself look like you have broad appeal. Then, when you’ve sold all of the G42s you think you can sell, you come out with the much anticipated G43. You think that the folks who got their G42 won’t buy the G43? You clearly don’t understand the Glock fanboys. The Pareto Principle applies to them directly, and they will rush out to buy their G43 as well. If Glock came out with the G42 after the G43, they never would have sold as many as they did. I don’t think the G42 sales will hamper their G43. They will make a killing on those. Who among us only owns one CCW weapon? C’mon, be honest ; ) As to me, after seeing the spec sheets on the dimensions, I will stick with my 12+1 G26.

      1. I have to agree. It was marketing genius. If the 43 came out first Glock would have sold next to 0 42’s. Millions of 42’s and millions of 43’s vs millions 43’s and not millions of 42’s.

This. Definitely this. Civilian sales and LEO sales (many departments do not authorize their officers to carry anything that doesn’t say GLOCK on it) of the 42 were off the chain. GLOCK sells you something you don’t need, because you want something similar, does this to you for ~18 months. This builds hype for a gun everyone ‘knows is coming’ but hasn’t even been announced yet, and bam! Two years almost of sales on pistol that was simple to engineer, probably never gets sent in for service as people don’t shoot them enough to have issues, and then you come in with what people really want (read: what GLOCK has told them through marketing that they need).

It’s the most brilliant marketing strategy I’ve ever seen in firearms. Close second at large would be the Interview being ‘banned’.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Glock is a different animal than most other pistol manufacturers.

So, what would be business suicide for someone like S&W, actually sells MORE Glocks than would have been I’d they’d switched the release order.

Well, I’ll agree that I don’t understand Glock fanbois (don’t understand Apple fanbois either). Pareto Principle indeed. When the G42 came out, a few folks I know acted like Jesus returned, and he brought copies of Half Life 3 with him. I was like “Welcome to almost 10 years ago” smh. The specs on this one are pretty meh IMO, considering the competition. I guess I’m too practically-minded to drink the Kool-Aid and get wrapped up in what Glock (Apple, too) does best: marketing.

I’m with you on that. I have a G26 and a G17, but I am really not a fan of the Glock triggers. I am a CZ 75 fanboy though. As to the G43, given its dimensions, it doesn’t make sense for me to switch from my 12+1 G26.

            CZ75 fanboy…

            Carries G26, not 2075 Rami?

Dude, come to the dark side! It’s better over here with a Rami!

Right, because Glock’s dont live up their expectations, do they? Wait… Apple sells a product at the same performance level as other products, but at a much higher price (deal with it Apple lovers). Where is the handgun that performs as well as a glock, but is significantly cheaper???

    2. Matt Bennett Avatar

Or maybe Glock is smarter than you realize yourself… Glock will successfully sell a ton of g43’s after they sold a ton of g42’s. They could never have sold a ton of g42’s if the 43 came first.

Next up, the Glock AR-15. If the Israelis were able to develop a polymer-framed solid rifle, Glock can do it too. Can you imagine the madness a Glock-brand-Glock battle rifle would cause?

  6. The 42 came first because, according to Glock it was the test platform to prove they could scale their guns down and keep the reliability. According to what they told writers at the factory tour, it’s easier from an engineering standpoint to scale the .380 up to a 9mm than to scale a 26 down to a single stack.

I’d like to see that documented…

I’m surprised the frame and slide are different than the 42. I sorta thought they engineered a single stack 9 all along, and just released a 380 version first.

      1. I’m just going off what they told the writers who were at the launch event.

  7. Only Glock could be this late to the game and hope to gain significant market share. I’m not a fan of having to carry the 22 as a duty weapon, and I already own an XDs so I certainly will be ignoring this entry, but I know a metric butt ton of people that totally lost it when this announcement was made. Some of them even own a single stack 9mm already, too.

  8. If you want a Glock rifle, buy a TAVOR.

    Polymer
    Reliable
    Durable
    Compact
Long, heavy, trigger take up with crisp break.
    Accurate Enough
Same price as anything Glock could make.

Enough said unless you want something that’s e”ergonomic” in Glocks uncomfortable/functional way (which actually works), which is probably what Glock would do.

I just banned your IP Colby. Enjoy your life LOL jk. I agree with you on most points but I really don’t think Glock would go bullpup ever. Seems tangential to the consistency of design over there.

So what do you think a carbine would look like? Maybe just a Glock-brand 9mm AR with a mostly conventional glock mag lower?

I think a glock-brand version of the Ruger PC9 would be awesome, and I don’t even own a Glock! But, I think it’s idiotic to imagine anything with a Monte Carlo style stock could be viable in our tacticool era.

I’m thinking a longer barrel, like 14″… Maybe free floating inside a proprietary handguard. Basically a pistol lower, and a special glock adjustable stock design that maybe is also foldable.

Not 16″ so you don’t have to pin a muzzle device to beat the NFA?

Has Glock ever even said it was remotely interested in doing anything other than a pistol? (carbine, rifle, shotgun, etc)

      2. This this is a fucking stupid idea for a Glock.

        At Mike.
I hope you did ban him.

The Tavor is fucking ugly, and not my cup of tea. I don’t like the ergonomics and I don’t think it’s great because it’s an “Israeli” weapon.
I preferred my M16A1, that’s right an A1, over a Travor in the army.

        “accurate enough”
        What the fuck?
All the guys I served with flat out said, the AR platform is a straighter shooter.

I almost called you out on not being actually in Israel until you posted lat/long, but now I am worried about your OpSec. I hope you can engage the tangos converging on your 20 with your A1 peep sights. Fingers crossed that your M16 primary doesn’t go down when ambient dust in your sector infiltrates your BCG and causes multiple FTFs, leading you to scream “COLBY WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG” when the SHTF.

          1. Sorry I haven’t been sleeping well.
Most of the the things I did/do (reserves) keep me in dry not so dusty environments.

      No Colby,

You and I both know that if Glock was to get into the rifle game, millions would be sold on its name alone. HAve they ever expressed the desire to sell rifles? Not as far as I can tell. However, if I worked in the R&D department at Glock, I would be putting in overtime just to come up with a reliable enough design. Can you imagine the faintings heard in the night if Glock announced they were going to sell rifles? With all of their LEO and military contracts? I would be surprised to find out that they never explored the idea of selling a Glock-brand-Glock rifle. It would be like taking candy from a baby.

Yeah, the G43 is kinda whack. Larger than a Kahr CM9, but holds the same number of rounds. They couldn’t manage to make it a 7+1, to compete with the LC9 and the S&W Shield?

That said, I’ll be buying one to go with my G42 ;)

  10. What everyone who’s saying “meh” or “humbug” seems to forget is it ain’t about them. New shooters are being born, growing up, coming of age, and finally looking for their first carry piece. Besides, options are good. Nobody ever said “it really sucks to have so many great carry 9s to choose from.”

Bottom line on the G43…it’s not like the Affordable Care Act; you aren’t required by law to buy it.

If you think you’d like to carry one and shoot it, buy one and be happy. If you don’t want to, don’t buy it, shut up, and be happy….:)

    Millennial here…

I’ll admit it… I bought a single stack 9mm as my first handgun. In this market though I personally couldn’t justify an MSRP of $589 when I can purchase a Shield, LC9s, Nano, or Keltec for a significantly lower price. I ponied up the same amount for my g19 gen4 a month ago. So I guess I’ll stick with my “old” LC9. Yes everyone is probably right, millions of g43’s will be sold, but they could of had MILLIONS of sales already!!… had they released this product years ago. I also think once scorpion evo3’s start hitting shelves in mass, Glock will/should take note and watch closely. The next gun craze will be small SBR-able pistols /full size 9mm rifles (that can be sbr’d). sounds right up Glocks alley, unless their R&D is sleeping at the wheel… Again…
