Retired MD State Police Captain Speaks On Gun Owners And Firearm Carry

This is great:

American-FlagWhen someone that experienced from a lifetime career in Law Enforcement says things like that, it should be hard for even the most anti gun to ignore.

Annoying he got cut off a the end because he was on a roll… he still got a chance to say a lot of real good things though which I hope educated a lot of people on that room and potentially changed their minds.

On a related note, Baltimore does sound like a rough place.  I’m not just going by what I saw on The Wire either (Such an amazing show btw… I still think about it all the time)

  1. a very educated and well spoken man. however when talking to someone who has already made up their mind about guns, its like talking to a wall.
scared people don’t care about facts! they just want their fear to go away.
the way to protect our amendments and liberties is still the same as it was in 1776. our rights are not a gift from the government, they are the freedoms that all men are born with!!

I have a really good buddy who is a B-More detective. The dark side of that city is fuuuuuucking insane. But on a serious “The Wire” note… I named my dog Weebay.

haha at naming your dog Weebay. I can only imagine the stories you buddy has.

  4. I’m not going to pat him on the back.
First requirement of being a police officer is being an adult. He had 21 years before he toted a gun and badge to appreciate freedom. To educate himself.

When he could carry everywhere with no repercussions that was fine. I don’t put it behind him to seek an elected office.

You know….if you carry a gun for a living, you know its worth. It’s okay for your co workers to be protected but not everyone else. Foolishness. For every Javonte Jones homeboy gang member, there are single mothers, older people, young women, or just anyone who shall not be deprived of self protection.

Glad he learned his lesson but he can cram it. You don’t retire after 23 years and suddenly get a conscience.

    1. Yeah, but I he did try to affect change from the inside. At one point he talks about the bureaucratic nightmare that is MSP and how he couldn’t change anything. If the politicians won’t let you define what a “good and substantial” reason is, your hands are tied. I think before he went to the licensing division he thought it was a lot easier to get a CCW, and once he got in there he was like, “Oh shit, NO ONE can get a permit. I didn’t realize how fucked up the system was.”

  7. I love this guy. Thank you sir, please run for office! One day we will be freed of our chains here in MD lol.

BTW Mike, you’re correct that Baltimore is rough, and one of the reasons is that *no one* except criminals can carry. I live in a good neighborhood here in Bmore and was mugged at gunpoint by a group of dudes, in broad daylight on a busy block. They knew for a fact I didn’t have a weapon, so they could be brazen about it. Last summer there were criminals who would walk around really nice and busy blocks near the university and rob kids of their electronics. Again- middle of the street, broad daylight, tons of people walking about, etc. They didn’t give a shit- nobody was carrying anything more than a pen knife. Yet the State Police don’t even have a baseline of what is a “reasonable” need to carry a firearm in this city is. I’ll tell you- it’s the city itself.

Also, if you ever come here (…don’t unless you like poverty), refrain from talking about The Wire. Unless you wanna get got, that is. Omar comin.

That’s insane you were robbed mid-day. I really don’t have any exposure to that kind of brazenness thankfully.

haha damn, you guys don’t like Wire references? Noted. I definitely don’t want to get got.

Im mad that i cant buy any more extendos for my AK while some people cant even exercise their right to carry at all. The struggle is real for some. However im very glad there are people as well articulated as this to stand up for whats right. Its frustrating yet not surprising when he was saying he sent letters to those like moms demand action and never got a response. I cant blame MDA though… it is hard to argue the cold hard truth.
