How S&W Made Their Recent POV Commercials

This is an interesting contrast to the Glock 43 commercial I posted today:

The guy in charge makes the statement at 0:23 that the idea was to let the viewer project themselves into the action of shooting the firearms rather than cast people supposedly from the target audience.  Cool, yea POV definitely does that.  Totally different feel in this commercial than the Glock one, but I suppose at the end of the day the same thing either is or isn’t accomplished (sales).  In my mind, I don’t really know which one I feel is more effective.  The S&W ones are definitely higher energy and look “fun”… so I’d say they probably get the edge.  Granted it’s like comparing apples to oranges because the Glock commercial was about concealed carry (a serious topic), not shooting silly string and tannerite filled watermelons for shits and giggles.

That RED POV rig they made is pretty bulky whoa.  Definitely not your little brother’s GoPro when it comes to size or video quality.  You can check out the Pistol and rifle commercials in their final form below:

*Dat cheeto money* Oooooo. I think sadly Cowwadoody crowd is assimilating the other crowds these days.

  3. Kudos to ENDO for posting a video that only had like 400 views before lol.

Coincidentally I watched it yesterday before I saw you posted it this morning and what struck me was how much I took these scenes for granted before I saw the making-of. I mean when you see the actual cuts that S&W uses, it doesn’t really seem all that spectacular, it’s just like…yeah that’s pretty much what it feels like to shoot a gun. And I’ve seen enough youtube videos of people shooting it kinda just seems to go along with it.

But after watching you realize these scenes really ARE more POV and immersive than what anyone has done, and you don’t really appreciate the extent to which that is true UNTIL you see all the crazy equipment and pains they go through to get that “as close to life as possible” POV.

Yea I agree. I didn’t think the behind the scenes was going to be that interesting or require that much equipment. Pretty crazy.

The tiger stripe pattern on the rifle video at 0:19. Very BF4 COD……

  5. Seriously, Glock, take notes.

  6. I really like how the commercials came out. That being said, I think that the RED camera is overkill. That camera is for cinema quality filming. How many people have adopted 4K TVs at this point? Virtually everyone who watches the commercial will be doing so on a computer in 720 p or 1080p at best. A lightweight GoPro or even a DSLR could accomplish the same thing with way less bulk and expense.

Also I can’t help but read that hashtag as #MAN DP.

There is no comparison between the sensor in the Red and the one in a GoPro. I like that S&W dropped the coin to do it right. No doubt this commercial will be running on the outdoor channel.

  7. Do they realize there hashtag is man dp?

I feel right now the focus is all about carry and defensive use of firearms. Im really glad to see S&W show a more interactive video of how you can have fun!
Would never use that hashtag tho…

    GoPro anyone?

That rig looks ridiculous and probably very hard to use. Many action cams today do the same thing already, not sure what they were trying to prove really.

Videos do look cool with their rig, but many compact action cams today accomplish the same thing.
