IWI Got Those Smart Weapons No Lie

Wild’in out with this eLog bullshit:

Drake-Middle-Fingersya Pfffft eLog… shit is tres 1995.  I mean like does it even have iTunes? 2-Step Authentication? Finger print reader? Retina scanner? Blood sample for DNA comparison getter? Voice recognition where you spit your favorite Dylan or Drake verse?  These are all the things I believe should be present before some blood thirsty killer (military or not) should be able to fire a shot.  Oh yea and the GPS should make sure you’re not within 100 miles of a school, on foreign and domestic soil.  For the children.

Thoughts?  Excited for the trickledown to civilians haha?

    1. War…has changed.

      ID-tagged soldiers use ID-tagged weapons

Militaries have already been doing this for like…decades. Cheaper too. Weapon inventory is already tracked by barcode and RFID in several cases, the S/N or other identifier is used to keep up with maintenance intervals, stock, and previous repair history. All without the added complexity of something that transmits and I assume is battery powered.

  3. Not really that ground breaking, as mentioned they’ve been using methods to electronically inventory weapons and check outs. And that the idea of embedding an accelerometer in the weapon has been proposed many times before.

  4. The post gave me a great idea for gun safety: a verbal password to greenlight the gun to fire. Mine, no doubt, would be: BREAK YO SELF FOOL!

haha best line ever. The gun will need a level attachment too that wont let you fire it unless it’s sideways.

    2. To be shortly eclipsed by a gun that pricks your finger, samples and then processes your blood, verifies that you are authorized to fire said weapon, and only then fires. And here all of you thought fps lag sucked in your favorite shooter… LOL

        That’s what I’m talking about d0zer!

  5. The Israelis love tracking stuff. They have a completely digital (the first and only of its kind) import/export tracking system. They can bring up exactly where a TEU is and when it will deliver and where to with one click. Industries stateside have been looking into how to implement something similar. This reminds me of that. I’m all for militaries having a good count on inventory and consumption, on the other hand I don’t want that in any of my guns.

  6. This is purely an inventory control feature (as in, keeping track of where it is, when it is/was there, and how much it was used). There is no mechanism to disable the firearm, so this isn’t in any way a “smart gun” feature (as in prevents the gun from firing unless the proper user is identified). It’s only for tracking inventory and maintenance.

The real advantage it would have over traditional RFID is the rounds counted, plus the theft prevention/position location. From a logistics point of view, it has advantages over a traditional system (visually locating and scanning each weapon to see its history, etc). As a former warehouse manager and inventory control guy, I can see the application for the military and why it might appeal. Especially if the information can be read “real time.”

But don’t go all tin-foil hat. It can’t disable the weapon. Yet…

Thank you. “But don’t go all tin-foil hat. It can’t disable the weapon. Yet…” Lol

  7. For the love of god, when as a society are we going to grasp that making something easier for “us” also makes it easier for the enemy. Think about that and all the possible uses an enemy of Israel could exploit. I mean it’s not like Israel has a lot of enemies right? Oh wait…..

Its just another way that some company is exploiting the beareaucritization of military affairs. Armies get bloated at the top, lots of idle guys that need to justify their rank/pay grade, so here, sell them something that helps them keep busy. Its just like the private sector. They’re always trying to adopt some new fancy technology to keep track of the napkins in the break room. Never mind if you spend 20 million dollars so you can save 15,000 a year. You’ll make your money back in a decade or so!

Great system, until the enemy hacks in, pinpoints the transmitter, and plops a smart IED on it….
