Alleged Atlanta Carjacking Yields A Catchphrase And Hopeful Fame

Meh.. read what I have to say in the last paragraph after watching the video:

Full Story – NY Daily News

Atlanta-Carjacking-Attempt-Gone-WrongSo what happens in a situation like this if there there is no video footage or eye witnesses? It says the “suspect” was arrested for attempted robbery and entering an automobile.  If the suspect keeps denying it though then what? Looking at the mugshot pic, the guy looks to have some substance abuse issues.  Will he just get out of jail ASAP and have the opportunity do the exact same thing to someone else?

Who’s filming the video btw?

Anyway the following opinion of mine may be unpopular, but I don’t really care if some of you don’t agree so I’m going to state it anyway.  What kind of a douchebag (I’m talking about Hashim Fannin here who is the guy with the gun in the video) creates a “public figure” facebook fan page following the incident (calling himself “The man who isn’t afraid to embrace the 2nd amendment.”), a new promotional twitter account, and tries to turn #YouWokeUpStupid into a thing?  Oh and “For bookings, contact [email protected]  For usage or licensing, contact [email protected]” *EXTREME SMFH* How about you let the public decide if you’re worth talking about for more than a few more days?  Trying to turn your little incident into a vehicle to make you a celebrity is incredibly tacky and laughably lame.  This seemingly is what this country is going towards more and more every day though.  Dudes who carry are now going to be at home practicing their own catchphrases in the mirror, just wishing a MF’er will so they can drop the one liner hopefully on film and rocket to stardom or at least get some beer money when some useless marketing company offers to cut them a check for video rights.  This fame grab is so painful to witness, I feel bad for Hashim.

EDIT: He now is trying to capitalize on his non existent fame with catchphrase t-shirts. Buy one over at YouWokeUpStupid.com if you’re an idiot.

Thoughts? Who here has a one liner already on deck? Drop it in the comments.

This is the second incident he’s been in. The first was very much how you thought it might go down without witnesses, but he had proof to back up his claim (second vid in the link: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/05/daniel-zimmerman/defensive-gun-use-of-the-day-concealed-carrier-holds-carjacker-for-police-nsfw/). In that one he had to bust out an AR during a Craigslist deal. Talk about bringing enough gun! He did everything right in the above case, and maybe he just has an entrepreneurial spirit, but I’d worry his fame might go to his head and he starts looking to put himself into such situations.

Wow that’s incredible. Yea this guy is even more of a douchebag then I thought.

      1. Wld you believe 1 alleged carjacker had no weapon and does not own one 2) never got into Hashim s car 3) has a relatively nice ’08 Murano ( as seen in background) 4) is semi retired and financially independent 5) has worked professionally for Boy Scouts of America 2) Regional dev director for Salvation Army. and spends a substantial amt of his time volunteering for Samaritans Purse assisting natural disaster survivors within hrs after they are affected
        – has been to Long Isl. Tom s River NJ – Hurr Sandy. and Moore OK. – devastating tornadoes for approx 5 weeks over the last couple of yrs. MR Fannin can sure pick his victims. Seems. He had another gun ‘incident’ when the police were called on him as being the robber Coincidence. What are the odds

Staged video. Yea that’s what I was thinking too.

      1. The previous incident from a few years ago makes me wonder about this guy and his incidents.

oh and we can add catchphrase t-shirts now to the mix – http://youwokeupstupid.com/

  3. Friend of mine got robbed at an ATM, turned around and said “Got change for a 40?” Killed the guy, his wife asked him why he’d make a joke like that but he claims he doesn’t remember saying it.

    Well said Endo Mike.
    I blame the Kardashians.
This dude would have better luck becoming famous for nothing by screwing Ray J then releasing the sex tape.

Jeez! Leave the guy alone. He’s one of us (regardless of his race!) and I hope he turns his fame into a TON of money.
And I hope it doesn’t backfire on him in any way too.

    GOOD JOB, Fannin.

I tend to agree – but when he’s engaging with the perp he needs to keep it professionnal and assume there will be a wrongful death suit. What happens when he fucks with the guy, he decides to get up and attack, then he has to shoot him? In other words, I have no real problem with his PR stuff, but it is either self defense or “must-see” reality TV, as a general practice mixing them seems like bad tactics.

As the first commenter pointed out, this is the 2nd time he has magically been in an incident and managed to get on the news. I’m sure if this time doesn’t work out for him he’ll shoot someone next time or come up with a catchier phrase. Third time’s a charm, as the idiom goes right?

  7. I have my phrase, the same one I use when I see VERY stupid people getting hurt….”that’s how you learn.”

Everybody loves capitalism until someone else tries to make money at something they don’t like. Maybe this guy can shed some light on why we need to have carry laws to a demographic that buys into the false narrative that gun control saves lives.

He can go sell his autograph down at the mall for all I care, I’ll still feel sorry for him and think anyone who buys into his little promo scheme is an idiot too though.

  9. Quint Avatar

I feel like the guy with the gun is overly antagonistic. He keeps questioning the perp, and then tells him to shut up. If he didn’t confess to the first time he was asked to admit what he had done, then why would asking again yield a different result?

Yeah dudes got a right and good for him but when the next encounter goes wrong the prosecution attorney will undoubtedly use the Twitter Facebook etc against him like a hammer.
Kind of like Open Carry IMHO. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should…

As soon as this dude started his monologging and tough-guy talk I began to think BS or that he’s a narcissistic attention whore. Who does that? Also, how often do scrawny pale white junkies rob stout looking black men?

    1. Drugs will certainly interfere with the thought process. Some tweaker tried to mug my 6’5″ bald headed, bar-brawling, militant-looking friend in a hotel parking lot. It did not end well for said tweaker.

    2. To some extent I appreciate your comment however at that pt in time inmaybhave appeared to be a scrawny pale white junkie BUT let me as ask you this. 1-Has anyone ever had a good looking mugshot. 2 At that particular time I had just gotten out of the hospital and was just beginning to recuperate 3- I was a good 20lbs underweight and 4- had just had one of my best friends pass away. I am not a scrawny white junkie and in the long run the innocent will prevail and the guilty will pay the price

Interesting he asks the cop can I put this BACK in my car reffering to his gun. strange being that it seams the alleged jacker would have been in the car during the time when your gun would have come out so how again did you get your gun from what I assume was a moving car or at last a car that had the doors closed and if the gun was easy enough for him to get to from the outside of the car wouldn’t the alleged jacker have seen and probably already had it in is possession

what makes everyone think that Mr Horn ( who when you really analyze this is the real victim) has or had some kind of drug issue ? The man is almost 62 yrs old and that on top of the fact- have you ever seen a healthy attractive mug shot photo? this hashim fannin is disgusting – its so obvious how much he is enjoying his role as the bully with the gun. he continually asks Mr Horn questions over and over while continually teling him to shut the f up What an ass and what are the odds that this time and the last time (1 1/2 yr ago) when the police were called on him for stealing an iphone and by the time they got there he had an asssault weapon on thereal victim ( and God forbid they believed him that time too) that these 2 times are the only isolatedincidents mr fannin has had like this>? Comeon the guys a gun carrying control sociopathic freak

  20. I am the “frail” vicious carjacker from the above story. Most of the above comments are not only appreciated but very much on pt. As far as the frail description-,I had just undergone major surgery and was recuperating – in the process lost 15 lbs-and of course a mug shot cld make Marylin Monroe look like Olive Oil. This man is wout ? a danger to society. I played rugby for over 20 yrs and not much scares me but this man wout a doubt WANTED TO SHOOT ME . I feel sorry for him in a # of ways but he truely disgusts me. Making money on an incident that was clearly no threat to him and a mistake on the same day that a lady lost her life in Atl in a carjacking- unfortunately a violent phenomena that is trending up more and more each day. Disgusting. When this is all resolved – I am going to donate a substantial amt of $ fm the ensuing lawsuits to victims of carjacking.and if justice truely prevails this idiot will and shld spend some time behind bars. The ATL police violated every protocol in this situation and there will be repurcussions there too.Not to mention the damage done to my family- my reputation and Most importantly the people of Atl. I m still in shock over this travesty and nothing will EVER make things right but if Mr Fannin is interested I wld like to challenge him to a 5 round boxing match – completely organized and controlled with the money raised going to charity- let s see what kind of man he really is. It is with great sadness that I write this comment but I felt it needed to be done
    Thank you. Edgar Horn

As time goes by , as the real victim of this sad chain of events, my perspective has slowly changed or evolved -if you will.
Mr Fannin: I am sorry that this entire incident had to occur the way it did but unfortunately because of your (over) reaction to what did and didn’t happen I have been harmed in a number of ways and inevitably you will be too.I can t allow what happened to be left at status quo for anyone and everyone to assume that it did occur the way it was portrayed- that I am some poor frail drug abusing carjacker ( just read most of the accounts of the situation) therfore I intend to take every possible step within the law to insure that the truth prevails – and although it feels alien to me -I am going to pursue every legal Avenue possible to insure that I am compensated for the damages ( and believe me there are plenty) that I have suffered.
In the meantime I hope that you think long and hard about your firearms, what they are for and how you use them.
I have and will continue to pray for you and hope that you use this unfortunate situation as a process for growth

    Sincerely
    Edgar Horn
