Uber Scared Of Guns

Yawn… this should get some attention / spark outrage:

UBER FIREARMS PROHIBITION POLICY

We seek to ensure that everyone using the Uber digital platform—both driver-partners and riders—feels safe and comfortable using the service. During a ride arranged through the Uber platform, Uber and its affiliates therefore prohibit possessing firearms of any kind in a vehicle. Any rider or driver found to have violated this prohibition may lose access to the Uber platform.

As the saying goes though “Concealed is concealed” amirite guys? ;)

uber-logoHow many crimes do you think this will prevent?  I’m sure criminals are very into reading the “terms of service” and making sure none of their actions are in violation of even the smallest detail.  Warms my heart… what a good bunch of people criminals are.  Also, besides the obvious crime this will prevent, it will also insure the “feelings of safety and comfort” for both driver-partners and riders are preserved.  Wow how nice.  I wonder if they will start prohibiting other things that may make some drivers uncomfortable?  Maybe they should really piss everyone off and enforce some illegal bans on non heterosexual people (that would go over well)… maybe even they could even more old timey and ban skirts above the knee and low cut tops?  Don’t forget turbans and any other sort of religious clothing… because that tends to make some people uncomfortable too.  Gotta cover all the bases right Uber? *smh* I can’t believe companies still try and pull this shit in 2015 for what they think is the greater good.  Someone should show them some statistics.

Thoughts?

  1. UBER FAIL.

  2. Yeah, well, whatever….It’s Uber. It’s like a taxi for people who don’t own a car or who won’t take a taxi. I bought a car so I don’t have to rely on taxis, busses, and trains.

    Concealed carry is concealed! Uisrite!

      Bitch u guessin’!

  3. Luckily I’m a car driving cisgender white male who doesn’t squat to piss so I doubt Uber shall ever see my business anyways

  4. I use Uber only when I’m down in the city partying and my hip urban friends want to get an Uber to bar hop. It’s nice, but as someone who owns and maintains a vehicle that gets great mileage, I spend more money on an Uber than just driving. Here in Michigan, the Uber range is super narrow too. It won’t work in my area, which is about 45 minutes North of Detroit. It’s also worth noting that I can’t carry when I’m drinking in Michigan (our limit is .02 BAC to carry), so in the situations I would be using an Uber, I wouldn’t be able to carry anyhow.

I wonder if non-licensed concealed carriers in Detroit (aka criminals) will obey this rule. Haha, no I don’t wonder. They won’t.

“Yo, Jamarcus, Uber say they ain’t lettin’ heaters in no mo’.”
“Shit, I guess we takin’ the bus.”

  5. “Any rider or driver found to have violated this prohibition may lose access to the Uber platform.”

    So yeah, “concealed is concealed.”

I’ve been following Uber, I think it’s an interesting idea. It’s available in my city, but I admit I’ve never used it.

I bet the Venn Diagram of concealed carriers and Uber users/drivers is almost negotiable.

Lyft just coupled with Uber and changed their policy. I think it was Cam and Co that talked about how Uber has this policy where as Lyft did not. But that has changed since the merge. Sidecar even prohibits weapons. Funny thing is, a swiss army knife or peper spray are weapons. How many people per day ride Uber, Lyft, or SC with a knife or ‘weapon’ and dont get hastled.

Im being discriminated against for exercising my rights… Oh wait, i have a car. F em’.

Today’s new word: Uberjack. Watch to see if this policy is a ploy to curry favor with Their Betters to get the
court ruling (employee vs contractor) reversed.

  9. Uber’s drivers are 1099s. Compelling them to disarm could easily be construed as a significant enough control to turn them all into employees.

  10. I’m sure the nerds at Uber didn’t think twice about this. It’s only in their terms because their lawyers told them to add it. And Mechanically is right. That Venn diagram probably doesn’t overlap.
