ABC

Diane Sawyer with a creative project to demonize guns:

LOL well done ABC well done… I love that part where they plant the two handguns in the classroom.  Sneaky stuff.  Off camera those kids were probably like “LOL there’s no magazine in here even?  Mrs. Struthers is trollin!”.  I really wish ABC would have put some sort of really low powered blank (definitely not one that could hurt the kids) in the gun so when the kid pulled the trigger it went off, and then saw how the kids reacted. I suspect also kids aren’t as stupid as some people think. Were those two really dumb enough to think two real handguns somehow made their way randomly into the classroom while their teacher conviently said “oh hey boys go have some candy and play with the toys over there.

Blaze TV Dana Loesch takes a look at the video and breaks it down:

Yea, hardly an epidemic.  I’ll agree though that any kids at all dying from negligence or accidents is terrible.  Kids are going to drown in pools, break their necks on trampolines, etc… though too as she points out.

If I had kids I would definitely keep the guns out of their reach.  No creative hiding spots low down they could even find.  I would also instill in them how to properly handle a gun and not to touch them, but naturally if you tell a kid they can’t do something they are probably going to want to do it more.

Dana-Loesch-BlazeThoughts?  Maybe I’ve been in the firearms world too long, but I’m really starting to notice how cyclical all this is.  I feel I’ve seen all the anti gun crap, and the pro gun responses to it a million times.  I’d rather just blog about derpy new products, and fun stuff companies come out with.

I always like that guy, but this seals the deal:

“You have to have a gun under your bed,” Kutcher said. “…I don’t have security.”

Full Story – HERE

He’s one of us.

The statement he made was in an ABC news interview when asked about a radical new promo he was doing on Chat Roulette, for his new movie Killers.

Blah blah blah Americans buy guns and sell them to criminals and smugglers to bring back to mexico… same old story, but there is a funny surprise at the end…

Her stance and cheek weld is terrible.  I would have expected the ATF agents to give her better instruction, considering she could have ended up with a nice bruise on her cheek bone from the stock hitting it.

The highlight of the video:

“And they are so easily converted, you can buy semi and make it fully automatic.  They know how to drop those chambers in, and it doesn’t take long.”

-Kimberly Hunt (ABC 10 news)

LOL whaaaatt?  That definitely rivals the “shoulder thing that goes up” line from Carolyn McCarthy

Lucky to see the California assault weapons ban is working   Well I guess it is working… against the law abiding citizens.

40mm grenade launchers are NOT easy to get, they are classified as destructive devices and require an ATF Form 1.  Unless you talk to ABC news, you’ll find out that not too many people have them.

So why do so many companies make barrels with M4 profiles, if very few of us have M203 grenade launchers?

My theory is that a lot of people simply want their rifle to be very close to what the Military uses.   Whether or not they will be able to use aspects of the design is a moot point in their eyes.

Vuurwapen Blog has some great thoughts as usual (HERE)

Another good example of an aspect in design that few of us need, is the forward assist. Although I don’t shoot tens of thousands of rounds per year, I have never had to use it once and I’m sure most people can say the same.  Although I do occasionally see some n00bs at the range that repeatedly hit the forward assist with authority  , after they seat a fresh mag and drive the bolt home.

In my previous post ABC News – How to get a grenade launcher we talked about how the media always gets their facts wrong, and time and time again manages to blow everything way out of proportion.

A new development from a frequent commenter Josh:

Regardless of all that, one of the stories I ran across said it was a 37mm Cobray grenade launcher. Obviously, 37mm is a flare, not a grenade, and the Cobray website doesn’t indicate that what they manufacture is anything other than a flare launcher. Way to go ABC. I think they might appropriately be called the “Alarmist Broadcasting Company.”

Here is the actual excerpt from the Fox News article he is referring to:

Detectives later searched the room where Woodson had been staying at the Red Mill Inn in Branchburg. Forrest said they seized another Bushmaster .308-caliber semiautomatic rifle with a defaced serial number, a 37 mm Cobray grenade launcher, a second bulletproof vest, a Russian-made night vision scope, a police scanner, a map of a U.S. military installation and a map of an out-of-state civilian community, a Middle Eastern red and white colored traditional headdress and hundreds of rounds of .50-caliber and .308-caliber ammunition.

BIG difference ABC.. BIG difference.  One is a Destructive Device (40mm) and one is not (37mm).

There is no such thing as “grenades” for the 37mm.

Now I don’t look at FOX as being an authority on gun related news either, but I believe that a lot more than the crap ABC tried to tell us in that newscast.

FOX likely did mess up on this, if it was presumably an AR-15 they are referring to:

Forrest said the .223-caliber assault rifle (Bushmaster) that Woodson was carrying had a defaced serial number and had been altered to fire .50-caliber ammunition.

Altered? as in had a new upper attached to it?

Also, an AR-15 is not an assault rifle.

Cobray sells their 37mm flare launchers online (price approx. $500)  if you are interested – HERE

-Thanks again for the tip Josh.

I love how at the start of the video starts with “A simple google search got us 164000 entries…”

The picture they show at 40seconds is from the destructive device section of AutoWeapons.com.  My guess is ABC fabricated that whole phone call and stole the picture, because I doubt anyone that works at AutoWeapons is not familiar with the ATF rules, nor would they bother risking their business on something like this.

DD1-152 – COLT M203 GRENADE LAUNCHER, SPECIALLY MADE FOR THE HK G3 7.62x51mm MACHINE GUN (ALSO KNOWN AS THE AK4)…THIS LAUNCHER IS FROM A GOVERNMENT EXPORT CONTRACT FOR THE SWEDISH MILITARY… (Source)

The lady they talked to on phone apparently said the only restrictions are:

  • A buyer has to be a resident of a state that allows them to have a grenade launcher
  • The buyer needs a gun permit

40mm grenade launchers are actually considered “Destructive Devices” by the ATF and they are highly regulated.

37mm copies of them are actually flare launchers so they are not regulated at all.  People often refer to these as “grenade launchers” as well, even though there is no such thing as a 37mm grenade.
