black

I think this is hilarious:

I watch a lot of comedy, mainly black comedians such as Katt Williams, Dave Chappelle, Mike Epps etc… and most of their comedy is racial. They poke fun at all type of stereotypes, whether it be black, white, asian, hispanic, and frankly I think it’s hilarious.   And no one would think those comedians I mentioned were funny, if what they said couldn’t be related to by a large number of people in those races that they poke fun at.

The classic double standard rears its head once again when it comes to this Bill Maher Clip. Most of the blogs are OUTRAGED to say the least, that he would say such a thing.   get over it… He made a black joke, who cares.  It’s perfectly acceptable for black people to joke about white people, and I don’t buy that shit, that it can’t go the other way.

If you think anyone who laughs at this clip is racist, I say go get a sense of humor. And if you think it’s unfair to associate black people and guns, I say go read any Chicago based news website for starters.  Or are those stories fabricated as a part of some vast conspiracy?

If you aren’t already watching the AMC show Breaking Bad, then you should get caught up. The show is absolutely incredible.  At first I was a bit skeptical, considering one of the main characters “Walt” (played by Bryan Cranston) was previously known to me as the dad on the goofy fox comedy show “Malcolm in the Middle”.  Let me tell you though, his performance in this show as a drug manufacturer / high school teacher does not disappoint.

In the most recent episode ( Season 3, Episode 7 ) a fast talking gun dealer gives a Black Talon bullet by the name of “Black Death” to the Mexican hitmen.  I transcribed the scene the best I could:

I’m runnin’ a special on these little honeys.  JHPs.  Hollow point bullets known by the names as black death.

Check it out.  You like that? So sweet you wanna lick it.

Nickle plated brass casing, Lubalox coat (unintelligible)

Sucker has six ranger claws that expand upon impact.

Shred your (unintelligible) head like a cabbage.

I’m not going describe any more of the episode, because I don’t want to spoil it… you should definitely check the series out!

The New York Times has an interesting article on target marketing in the realm of Ammunition.

In the article they mention how the use of TV ads, fancy packaging, webisodes, and celebrity endorsement have worked when creating a new “brand” of ammo.

The article focuses on Alliant Techsystems (ATK) and their fancy marketing with their Federal brands Fusion and Black Cloud.

Full article – HERE

Here is the “duck suit” video for black Cloud that was mentioned in the article:

Thoughts:

In the article, Jason Nash (an ATK communications and events manager) calls the video “Viral”.  I would hardly call that video viral, considering it has been out since August 2009 and only has 103 views! LOL   Maybe its more popular on their own website, or on another video sharing network?  I get more views than that a day on my company’s videos.

As always, I am glad to see the New York Times not refer to hunting or shooting in a bad light.  They could have easily resorted to talk of “cop killer” bullets, but chose not to.

When ever I think of ammunition advertising, this image always pops into my head:

The graphics are so garish and the scene is so ridiculous with the lightening, explosions and fake “agents”, it’s hard to forget.  I have never used extreme shock, so I have no comment on its actual effectiveness… but I’m sure they sell more than a couple boxes just because of the way it stands out in the crowd.  The only thing that ad is missing is some girls in picatinny railed bikinis.

You can check out their extreme website HERE… not recommended for children under the age of 16 and people with heart conditions.  (I kid I kid… :P)

FRANKFORT, Kentucky –Northern Kentucky University has been awarded $10,660 from the state Law Enforcement Protection Program (LEPP) to purchase patrol rifles, Gov. Steve Beshear announced Thursday.

Hmmm… Coincidentally the ATF had $10000 worth of “easily convertible” airsoft m4’s fall into their lap.   Agency to agency transfer anyone? :P

Also, awesome use of “Patrol Rifles”…. It’s refreshing to not see them demonized as “Assault rifle” killing machines.  I guess it has always been this way though; In the hands of police they are “tools”, but in the hands of citizens the same view largely isn’t held by the general public.

Under the LEPP, administered by the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security (KOHS), appropriate agencies can seek financial help for certain defensive items essential in the course of their duties.

“These funds will help ensure that our law enforcement will not be out-gunned and increase security on campus,” state Sen. Katie Kratz Stine, of Southgate, said.

Damn, I’ve only been out of University a couple of years now, but it must be getting pretty rough.  All jokes aside, if this keeps the students safe from psychos then I’m all for it.  I still think allowing students to carry on campus would be a zero cost better alternative though. $10660 isn’t going to buy that many patrol rifles, especially since they will all likely be fitted with some fairly pricey optics.  I say this because I can’t see open sights being a good choice for a possible shootout around hoards of innocent students running in every direction.

In conjunction with the Kentucky State Police (KSP), KOHS derives income from sales of confiscated weapons.

Oh that’s nice! *sarcasm*  I thought confiscated weapons were either destroyed or else given back to the original owner (if they were found to be stolen).  Or does this policy vary by state and department?  My first thought is that confiscating weapons to fund department purchases doesn’t seem very ethical.

Dillinger-Carved-Wood-Gun

Crown Point jail – Indiana (March 3, 1934)

While awaiting trial for the alleged murder of an East Chicago policeman, the police boasted to area newspapers that the jail was escape-proof and posted extra guards to make sure Dillinger couldn’t escape.  Dillinger was able to secretly carve a wooden gun (pictured) from the top of a wooden washboard and coat it with black shoe polish. Using it, he was able to trick a guard into opening his cell. He then took two men hostage, rounded up all the guards in the jail, locked them in his cell, and fled. Dillinger stole Sheriff Lillian Holley’s new Ford car, embarrassing her and the town, and traveled to Chicago.
