Violent crime in Chicago is out of control. Vice takes a look:

Gun-Control-Chicago3:40 – “We using handguns in Chicago while they trying to ban assault rifles.  We don’t use assault rifles in Chicago. We get up on you baby.”  hahah real talk.

The gang mentality is insane.  I couldn’t imagine living my life always worried about getting killed just for walking around somewhere mid-day.

Basically that’s what is going down there now:

Under the new policy, dispatchers will route 911 calls reporting non-criminal complaints or crimes in which no one is in imminent danger, such as some car thefts and simple assaults, to desk officers who will fill out police reports by phone. The new policy prohibits callers from insisting an officer be sent to the scene, as was allowed before.

Gun-Control-ChicagoHmmmm Chicago, a place where “gun control” thrives, yet this is all being done in the name of keeping homicides down.  Oh the irony!  Maybe if they empowered non-criminals that live there, as many resources wouldn’t have to be wasted.  I rather more clean-up crew jobs be created to hose criminal blood off walkways and pick up the bodies.

Some recent derp from the Chicago Tribune:

Chicago-Tribune-Assault-Forward-Sling-Mount

Close… but not quite guys.  LOL  For the last 10 minutes I’ve been trying to jam a bayonet into that sling mount point, but no luck.  I’m actually surprised they didn’t say the gun would fire knives that were placed there.

At least they didn’t try and say grenades were easy to get, and worse yet talk about 37mm as if they were the same as 40mm launchers.

Cook County Chicago is trying to make it happen:

Cook County Board President Preckwinkle is eyeing a violence tax on guns and ammunition sold in the city and suburbs

The idea is to curb the number of guns in circulation, he said, citing a report issued last summer showing that nearly one-third of the guns recovered on Chicago’s streets were purchased in suburban gun shops. Other statistics are more dire: Murders in Chicago are up 25 percent this year, according to recent police statistics, and the county jail is filling up — with 9,000-plus inmates, nearing the 10,155 capacity.

I imagine it would probably reduce crime to nothing, considering Chicago is an island surrounded by a force-field where no guns or ammo from any other place can get in or out.  Oh wait…

This is what DERP to the power of infinity looks like.  I can’t even wrap my mind around how they think this could possibly work.

Oh the county jail is filling up you say?  *mocking Waaaaaaaaaahhhhh* That’s what you get for making jail too comfortable and treating criminals like actual people.

400 murders so far in 2012, and naturally they want Twitter users advice:

The City of Chicago is asking residents with ideas on how to get illegal guns off the streets to share their thoughts — in 140 characters or fewer on Twitter.

The best submitted ideas will be debated at an Oct. 11 panel discussion during Chicago Ideas Week.

Participants may submit their ideas by using the hashtag #WhatIfChicago.

With a quick twitter search for the hashtag I was glad to see a lot of people not trying to blame the guns.  The twitter account @WhatIfChicago has been engaging some of the tweeters lately too.

This is obviously a social media marketing campaign for the upcoming Chicago Ideas Week (Starting Monday October 8th).  I hope the “best” ideas they pick to debate are not ones that will end up screwing over non-criminal gun owners in Chicago over.

Thoughts?  If you make a good pro-gun tweet using the hashtag, let me know in the comments!

Jones College Prep — a Chicago Public Schools “selective enrollment” school — recently held “Social Justice Week” in March, a collection of events geared towards turning students into activists.

A few things on my mind while watching the video:

  • I love how the kid near the beginning of the video (0:30) speaks his mind
  • 1:40 – Her paraphrasing of what she thinks the NRA said made me laugh “So what you have so many children dying on your streets, that’s ya’ll problem.  We just makin’ money.”
  • Where are people buying these guns with a mind of their own, that kill people?  All mine just sit here and do nothing.
  • Why are these kids at school at 4:35?
  • 4:48 – ah the old “number of black men in college compared to the number of black men in jail” statistic.  I suppose I should have some white guilt right about now? *eye roll*
