Deadly.  I wonder if he heads up a Sunni equivalent of Vigilant Spectre?

Hilarious article over at TheOnion:

A man described by eyewitnesses as “unsettled” and “disturbed” walked into the local Guns Galore Shooting Range early Tuesday morning, paid for a half hour’s worth of time, and then calmly opened fire on dozens of unsuspecting targets.

Chorlton, United Kingdom – A CT scan reveals a bullet that entered Peter Hesford’s skull while he was in his garden. Police are working on a theory that a gunman may have fired a shot in the air from a few streets away only for the bullet to land in Mr Hesford’s head as he looked up.

Lucky he’s alive!  The bullet must have just coasted along the top of the inside of his skull to end up at it’s final resting place.

His speech is slurred, his memory has deteriorated and he spends most of the time sleeping.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery.  It would be a shame if he didn’t all because of someone not following one of the cardinal rules of knowing your backstop!  Maybe the shooter was aiming at something solid, but people need to take into account where the bullet will go if they miss.

Ottawa Canada – RCMP officers who guard Parliament Hill are being equipped with submachine guns to give them more stopping power should a gunman attack the heart of Canada’s government.

Security, which has already been significantly beefed up after a high-profile breach last December, will get another boost in the coming months when Mounties patrolling the Hill get the Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine-gun.

While officers will still rely on their semi-automatic 9-mm pistols as their main weapon, they’ll also have access to the small but effective machine guns, which will be carried as a “secondary weapon” in their cruisers

Wouldn’t it make more sense to carry both? If the purpose of the MP5 is to quickly take out an “active shooter”, running back to the car and unlocking the gun then finding the shooter again does not seem like a good plan.  My guess is they won’t be carrying the MP5 because Canada is so sensitive to guns.  All their police carry handguns, so the general public is used to that… but adding a rifle into the mix full time would likely cause a huge stir.

The RCMP have noticeably stepped up security on Parliament Hill since a daylight protest last December by Greenpeace activists, who used climbing gear and a ladder to reach the rooftops of the Centre and West Blocks, where they unfurled banners taking aim at Ottawa’s climate change stance.

That definitely sounds like a problem that an MP5 will fix.  hahah

There is no word in the article regarding what version of the MP5 they will be using.

I’m not one to take anything FOX writes as gospel.. but I found this interesting:

He turned to face authorities one last time, firing two rounds from his Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun before a bullet to the head ended his rampage. Police said Wicks fired a total of five shots during the shootout, while officers fired 81 shots.

Source – Fox5Vegas

81 shots?!?! Isn’t that a bit excessive? Did a few police officers do mag dumps? Maybe there were a lot of police shooting a few rounds each?

Video of event captured on iphone

A one-minute, 13-second video clip posted on the Web site YouTube includes at least 45 gunshots, many in rapid succession. Nicholas Gramenos, who recorded the clip, said he was leaving the courthouse when the shooting erupted.

Chances are the iphone video didn’t start the instant the shootout started, so that 81 shot report from FOX might be valid after all.

A gunman walked into a Las Vegas federal courthouse Monday morning and opened fire, killing a court security officer and wounding a deputy U.S. marshal.

Seven employees of the U.S. Marshals Service chased the shooter out of the building and returned fire, according to authorities. He died after collapsing across the street from the courthouse from multiple gunshot wounds, said Ramon Denby, spokesman for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Officials say the gunman was clad entirely in black.
