medal

These are awesome:

Although I don’t feel like I’ve done anything worthy of a “Badger of Honor” or “Purple Shark”, for some reason I want them.  Would I be guilty of stolen animal valor?

Although they are “cute”, $48.00 is too steep for me, even if they are 100% handmade in Oregon.

Thoughts?

Incredible story, I can’t even imagine how scary that would have been…

What a humble guy Sal Giunta is.  Couldn’t ask for a nicer guy to receive the honor,  I’m not surprised at his reaction to receiving the medal considering the friends he lost.

I can hardly wait to see the movie Restrepo … It comes out on November 29.

Retired Lt. Gen. Reginald Centracchio, the former head of the Rhode Island National Guard, gave 8-year-old David Morales a medal called a challenge coin during an appearance on WPRO-AM’s John DePetro show.

Centracchio said the second-grader should be thanked for recognizing veterans and soldiers.

“You did nothing wrong, and you did an outstanding job,” he said. “We can only hope that kids of your caliber will continue to defend this country.”

Centracchio also gave David a certificate that allows him to call himself a brigadier general.

Nice!  Glad to see someone stepped up to the plate and thanked this kid.

Too bad David will probably be expelled from school now though because he now officially holds a high ranking position in the military according to the certificate he was given. I wonder if the O-7 pay comes with it?  That would buy a lot of toys. :P

U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan could someday be awarded medals for restraint that prevents civilian casualties in combat.

Congratulations, you get a medal for not killing innocent people! Seems like unless your unit caused a total massacre, it would be pretty hard not to give this medal to everyone.  If it will improve morale though, I’m all for it!

My girlfriend and I always joke that I have “Incredible restraint for a human being”, because when something really pisses me off I take a breath and move on rather than over reacting.  To be honest I don’t really want a medal… A Starbucks gift card would be nice though. :P
