0:18 – “Pick up the rifle…”  Well… not a rifle.  His instructor U.S. Army Special Ops badass Darren Moore should have been like “It’s a shotgun damnit, not a rifle!”

He is shooting at Biltmore in Asheville, NC.  Swanky looking place, I’d like to go there some day.  I’m so terrible at clays, i’d definitely like more practice.  In my defense I was using a Remington 870 with a Knoxx Spec Ops stock on it.

Nice looking Porsche Boxter he’s driving in the video.  I’m holding out for a Porsche Panamera when I undoubtedly get asked by Porsche if I want to do a cross-country ENDO road trip to judge modeling competitions and give my opinion on champagnes and fancy foods.

The NRA-ILA issued a statement today referencing an article in the Charlotte Observer talking about the success of the recent NRA convention in Charlotte.

I agree, that the convention appeared to be a huge success, and all the reports I saw on it were very positive.  I wish I was there, not only for the incredible gun show, but also the great presentations.

Anyways…my gripe:

With that many visitors in town, you might be thinking that there must have been some serious problems — maybe some opportunistic criminals preying on preoccupied tourists making their way around an unfamiliar city.  Well, crime was actually lower during NRA’s convention — much lower.

According to the CharlotteObserver.com article, Captain Jeff Estes, commander of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Central Division, said crime for the week was 45 percent lower than the same week a year ago.

For those who know that NRA members are among the most law-abiding of citizens, and that more guns often equates to less crime, then that figure should come as no surprise at all.

That is directly from the NRA press release.

I am all for the “More guns less crime” movement, but why try to correlate a drop in crime to the fact that the convention was there for 3 days? I really don’t think that had anything to do with it, considering the Charlotte Observer article goes on to say that crime in central Charlotte is down this year as a whole from 2009.  I highly doubt the criminals in and around Charlotte were sitting at home saying “Man, I should really be out there robbing and stealing.. but there are so damn many gun owners in town.  Too Risky for me!”

Maybe I’m just feeling in a nit picking mood, but this type of cause-effect reporting seems very Brady-esque. I expected more from the NRA.

The Clinton White House was absolutely convinced that pushing gun control would help it politically. … Then, in the 1994 election, we cleaned their clocks. They didn’t even see it coming. Sort of like a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick.

Like Glenn Beck, Palin also has a lot of good things to say. I’d still prefer she never be our president though.

Charlotte, NC – It was a very scary situation inside a 3rd Grade classroom at University Meadows Elementary. A gun went off inside a student’s desk, the bullet, missing the 20 or so students in the classroom and hitting a wall.

hahah *sigh* kids will be kids am I right?

Just kidding ;) This kid is going to get into so much shit from his parents and from the school.  Rightfully so, he needs to know that bringing a gun to school isn’t acceptable nowadays.  I’m sure the rest of his life from this point on he will practice proper trigger discipline.  I can imagine his parents will get scrutinzed too considering they are responsible for him obviously.

As you can imagine, I don’t buy the fact that the gun went off on its own.

I just realized that I typed my comment assuming it was a boy that brought the gun to school.  How sexist of me, a little girl is more than capable of doing such a dumb ass thing as well. :P

I was glad to read that all the kids are alright.

Sounds like it’s time to add some Eddie eagle and some Jeff Cooper to the curriculum.
