robot

This video was shared with me like 200 times, so I figured I better get off my ass and post it:

I think the main reason it was spread around is because not even one person whose instagram page I saw put up a short clip of the video credited Corridor Digital, and they cropped out the “bosstown dynamics” watermark.  Judging by the comments almost everyone thought it was real.  That just goes to show what a good job Corridor Digital does with these videos.  Check this out and this video too if you want to see how they made the video.  Looks like a LOT of work.

For those of you who think that a robot being that skilled is far fetched.  These next two videos are from the real Boston Dynamics:

Yooooo this is creepy:

Those dead eyes and no mouth…. yikes.  How much do you want to bet they start arming them next, and then all of the sudden we have a full on Terminator / SKYNET type situation?

haha wow this is creepy:

Darpa-Boston-Dynamics-ReindeerI love the staccato / Christmas cheer in its step.  We have seen that pack carrying robot a million times before, but it’s creepy every single time.  DARPA / Boston Dynamics needs to hurry up and mount some mini guns on those things though and bless us with some epic YouTube slow motion footage.

Merry Christmas everyone!

VICE went:

That guy is one of my least favorite VICE hipsters.

ChappieMan it’s frustrating watching slow robots derp around and then slowly flop over. There should be more speed, fire, girls, and explosions.

I’m still skeptical that this public “championship” isn’t just a dog a pony show, and that the US Military actually has robots 1000x more sophisticated than these ones.  What do I know though *shrug*.

Fails from day 1 of the DARPA robotics challenge:

Chappiehaha it’s like they showed up drunk.  Not quite Chappie levels of agility yet.  If it’s anything like the movies though, these robots will definitely have the last laugh when they turn on mankind and try to kill us all.

There’s a short article at IEEE Spectrum which you can read.  Some of the comments are pretty funny / butthurt.

Warning, if you don’t have 8 minutes to spare you probably won’t learn anything from this documentary you don’t already know:

irobot-warriorPretty interesting job being an EOD guy, especially with robots now.  That job was basically suicide before, from an outsiders perspective anyway.

Gotta love the video game controllers they use.  Why not though right?  They are basically perfect for that job.

4:00 – Interesting what Brian said about how they initially would go out of their way to protect the robots because they were not considered as disposable in the past.

The previous VICE documentary on “Killer Robots” I posted was definitely more entertaining and informative, so make sure to check that out if you haven’t already.
