Laser guns to replace pellet guns at the Olympics

OlympicsPentathlon

This is definitely the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a while:

UIPM President, Dr h.c. Klaus Schormann stated that “the decision to introduce non-air pistol shooting was the second big step for the sport following the decision in 2008 to change to the combined run/shoot format. This is a significant development in terms of lowering the environmental impact of the sport.”

It means they are going to be using LASER equipped guns for shooting instead of pellet guns.  For those that don’t know, a laser beam travels in a perfectly straight line ALWAYS and is not affected by wind, gravity, etc.

Pellets are about the size of a couple of grains of rice and are typically made out of lead.  Yea lead isn’t the greatest for the environment, but really… competitors for all over the world are going to be FLYING there to participate.. and they are worried about the environmental impact of a small amount of lead that could be easily recovered and re used?! HA!

I sure hope none of these people smoke, or have a resting heart rate of above 50 beats per minutes… all that pollution could mean the end of the world as we know it.

All these Olympians should head to Disney Land and ride buzz light year to practice.

Obligatory picture of my girlfriend and I on Buzz light year at Disney Land about a month ago:

  1. Don’t forget lasers require power which means batteries, and I guarantee the long term impact of the batteries used will far out weigh the long term impact of lead pellets.

I agree. It really doesn’t look like they thought this through at all. Maybe there is some large underlying Energizer or Duracell sponsorship contract which is fueling the stupidity.

  2. SET PHASERS FOR… FUN!!! PEW! PEW! PEW!

Man, it’s really sad to see the sport has devolved to such a state.

I’m curious as to when they’ll add La-Z-boy’s to the laser firing line. Maybe with a Super Big Gulp holder.

I’m sure the Brady bunch in Washington is already figuring out how to restrict or ban lasers incase it crosses over from the Olympics to the general population.

Not only that, in short, now even pellet guns lack a “sporting purpose”.

This kind of regression in shooting sports is nonsense to me, I mean, you can beat the living crap out of someone in Olympic boxing, you must run the 40km in the marathon and you need to swim across the freaking potomac and run till you get to Texas in triathlon, which arguably, are real world skills, but you can’t shoot a damned gun at the Olympics?

Sigh… everyday we are getting farther from seeing IPSC at the Olympics, BUT HEY! we have golf now days haven’t we?

  4. YES! My plan is working *rubs hands together in a devious fashion* Laser Tag will finally be an Olympic sport!

Honestly who gives a flying f*ck about the Olympics, Just a bunch of arrogant elitist asswipes fueling their own over-inflated egos with medals.
