Katy Perry’s USMC Female Recruitment Video

Brief Synopsis:

  • Katy Perry catches her boyfriend kissing some skank at his work, dumps him and makes a spur of the moment decision at a gas station to join the Marine Corps.
  • Hacks her hair off for some reason (not required for a female Marine, but more dramatic I suppose)
  • Wraps her boobs in tensor bandage (huh? Did she sprain one of them? Yea who knows… there goes 72.9% of the male viewers)
  • Dons Zinc colored American Apparel hoodie (Excellent choice… one of my favorites)
  • Trades in her clothes for a uniform
  • Gets reamed out by a drill instructor, likely for making herself look butch
  • Does some USMC training stuff all while maintaining fantastic trigger discipline

Meh.. i’ll take it.  That would really suck if you had to pull the charging handle back after every shot like she appears to be doing at 2:06

The multiple flashes of her “Ice” watch felt a lot like product placement.  Probably because it was. Pretty lame looking Rolex Submariner copy.

Terminal Lance kills it on a related comic:

You forgot to mention running away from the battlefield when everyone else in the background is heading towards the sounds of battle.

I didn’t know the M16 came in a bolt-action configuration.. (and her shooting stance’s bad)

can anybody tell me about why the shooting instructors are wearing safari hats?

because thats what they wear…….. at least her on the east coast at stonebay. If you dont know what stonebay is, its 2MEF rifle range base.

I just thought that as an instructor they would wear a campaign hat..
thanks for the info, will look it up :D

Keeps the sun off the back of your neck. Those days at the range are long and hot, USMC rifle ranges aren’t covered, you move back from the stationary targets rather than stay in one spot and shoot at different ranges. Also lets shooters know right away who the range coaches are.

Katie Perry’s acoustic work is very good! Why is she doing a Marine recruitment ad? Doesn’t seem like her.

Not that I’m super knowledgeable on the subject, but why do I feel like her helmet is 2 sizes too big and is sitting 2″ too high though most of the video?

Military and guns are getting more mainstream exposure that isn’t negative? I’ll take it.

Blanks?? pretty sure that’s what you do for blanks when no blank adapter is attached to the end of the muzzle.

The bandage was necessary, because most people don’t have widescreen monitors/TVs yet.

:-)

Anybody ID the rifle yet? I saw markings, but I couldn’t make them out on my laptop…

Is there any reason to think that it’s not a Marine Corps M16A4?

Those markings on the right side of the receiver say:
MFG (can’t read what follows)
PART # (can’t make out the number)
SERIAL # (also unclear)

They likely cut to someone else actually firing during that close up though – the empty case being ejected is not a blank.

Yeah, whatever she shoots ! Great Ad.

Prolly using her to get the word out on the new FET’s and such. Good Ad for the USMC as well.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be sporting bling on the O course. I also don’t remember some of that Navy Seal laying in the surf stuff in basic (or dancing under a big tarp, that’s probably from another service :). It’s not too bad, I suppose. When entertainers interpret the military, it’s usually a lot worse.

I really do not get the ace bandage on the boobs.. That being said.. I loved watching her do it lol

It’s a “JI Jane” reenactment thing. Demi Moore, shaved head, binding the twins.

I’ll bet if you had to try to exercise with those monsters bouncing around on your chest it’d make more sense.

Any time an entertainer portrays our fighting men and women in a positive light is fine by me. When it’s Katy Perry, even better.

Are the women at Marine Corps boot camp still required to cut their hair and then grow it out after graduation?

Now if you can just win a contest for the $300 camera to go with the $30 mounting bracket! :)

no shit. its cool thou. I was happy that my name was drawn as the winner. I never when drawings, so the next day when I saw my name it was a pretty cool moment. Although I should have asked if i could have traded the mount for one of his endo t-shirts.

Reply

Josh March 27, 2012 at 05:29 pm

I’ve got one of the cameras, although I don’t have any use for the mount. I’m not sure how it would work on a weapon – I’m sure there are videos out there of them, I just haven’t bothered to look. It works great as a dash cam, helmet cam for skydiving, motorcycle riding, etc. because of its REALLY wide angle view, but seems like it might be wider than you would want for video while shooting. It would also make for a good wide angle view of your bedroom when you’re banging the drunk chick you bring home from the bar.

At least this was a more accurate portrayal, unlike many “military” themed music videos you see now-a-days.

I’d put just about any one of those Female Marines up against half of the dudes I’ve known from the Air Force any day of the week. Then again I’m Army.

If you read some of the video comments, they’re full of teenage retards trying to compare Muhreens to Army Delta Force.

I wonder how many stupid people will be recruited because of this trash.

Josh March 27, 2012 at 05:33 pm

Isn’t it only dumb kids who use the term “Delta Force” anyway?

Because the intelligent thing to do when you’ve been wronged by your man is to go join the Marines. That’ll show him.
Sorry, it’s slick and all, but I think it cheapens all the legitimate reasons people decide to make that kind of commitment.

This was filmed on Camp Pendleton with real female Marines and everything real from what we work with at Bootcamp. I was supposed to be in this video but I was pregnant at the time. Some of it is realistic other parts were just un necessary.. No we are not required to cut our hair, we never lifted a log, or did any training in the ocean… The rest is accurate. Not sure what the bandaging her chest was about.. Someone has watched a little too much GI Jane which was a totally different situation.
