MSNBC’s David Gregory Shows Illegal 30 Round Magazine On Air

OH NOES!  Breaking a D.C. gun law in the process.  It happens at 9:56:

Legal in Washington D.C.:

David-Gregory-MSNBC-Legal-AR15-Magazine

Illegal in Washington D.C.:

David-Gregory-MSNBC-Illegal-AR15-Magazine

The law (§ 7-2506.01):

No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term “large capacity ammunition feeding device” means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The term “large capacity ammunition feedingdevice” shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.

A person guilty of this charge can be sentenced to a maximum fine of $1000 and/or up to a year imprisonment.

Enjoy your fine or prison sentence.  Oh wait, that will never happen.  Even if this does get a 2nd glance by law enforcement, MSNBC will likely claim it was a prop magazine not a real one, airsoft, or something similar then it will be swept under the rug.  I think the law he violated is ridiculous in the first place, but that’s not the point.  If they would bring up an average person on charges for possessing a magazine such as that one, then there’s no reason he shouldn’t at least have to write a check for $1000 at the very least.

Thoughts?  Do you guys like double standards as much as I do?

  1. I just watched part of the vid, including the 30 round mag. It looks like the floor plate had been removed and no internals. According to the language of the law you posted, as long as they can prove that the internal parts of the mag weren’t even in the building, they could probably get charges dropped (assuming someone was going to question them about it in the first place).

or that can be readily restored or converted to accept

That’s what it states in the law, so considering any internals could be put in there (not only the exact ones that were removed from it) I’d say they are still in direct violation.

Gregory is an asshat. His kids supposedly go to a school there outside of DC with armed guards. Another elitist telling “those people” how to live.

  4. The original AW ban failed to prevent infamous incidents such as the North Hollywood shootout in ’97. And the anti-crowd wants to try it again? What’s that condition called when one repeats the same mistake over and over and expects different results? Oh wait, “insanity.”

    1. Dont lump them in our camp, being less than normal(so long you dont require medication) is fun. As the saying goes: “Lucky is he who goes insane early, for the rest of his days will be filled with bliss” or something to that effect.

  5. i love how people want to take capacity of a magazine and use it as a substance for being able to reduce the MASS in MASS SHOOTING… i believe the NRA is right, it doesn’t matter. think about it… what if someone still have 10 rnd magazine but he had 10 of them… and he say… used to be ex military, trained to reload and use his ammunition effectively… wouldn’t you think he (or she) would still be able to effectively still injure/kill people through his training with any weapon? thought provoking no doubt.

    1. Remington 870 beats AR-15 in a mass shooting type event such as this school shooting; but really its not how so call deadly the firearm is. What matters is the knowledge, the know-how, and the ability to fight and kill with it that maters.

  6. Does look like an empty mag-body. Still depends on the laws. I can’t own a P-Mag here in Mass, even if the guts are removed. The only way I can have it is if its pinned or modified to only eat 10 or less.

BTW why does NOBODY beat the drum that Cho only had two 15 round glock magazines on her person at VT! His other gun was a P22 which only has 10 rounders, and post-ban magazines sold on Ebay for the Glock holding 10.

And he has the current highest body count. Your point is invalid.

    1. Highest body count for a school shooting. More died in the Bath School disaster, where the only gun used was a rifle to detonate dynamite.

I only ever heard that the sandy hook shooter had hand guns in side the school, and they found an ar15 and 2 other long guns in the car. Am i wrong?

  8. no but the media and obama will paint the picture any way they want

  9. It’s because NBC rents “props” so they get them through the exception to the law for TV show, movies and theater.

  10. Playing devil’s advocate for a moment, but an informational program may be exempt to a point on these types of laws. I’d liken it to the drug officer showed us pot and other drugs as kids so we’d know what we were supposed to avoid. Granted he was really showing us what to look for, but that’s a story for another day. ;)

  11. the news reports today say the DC police are investigating, and they had previously told NBC they couldnt bring a mag into Dc to do it.

  12. These people have no idea what they are talking about in the news. Prop companies legally rent firearms to news organizations and movie companies legally, that is how he has this on set. Wake up call, TV isn’t real life!

I guess we’ll see how this turns out but I find that very hard to believe. I doubt nbc would risk doing this not by the books from a production stand point.

        1. i think they just believe as journalists they can do whatever they want, luckily by mike owning this blog he can have fully automatic belt fed nuclear weapons and get away with it.
