I’m sure airsoft operators alone will make this guy rich beyond his wildest dreams. I just don’t see sales to professionals who actually carry AR-15s around for work happening.
I don’t care what make/model of operator AF SBR you own… those things are NOT that light, so you’re not going to want to have it on your hip for an extended period of time. I want to see him run with that thing on!
Honestly though if it’s like $30-60 I’m sure a lot range operators will buy them for fun. I was extra harsh in the title of the post, but I just really wanted to massage DERP into an acronym related to this… mission accomplished. ;)

Excuse me for my wild ignorance, but if I really need to switch to my secondary… Why would I waste time fumbling around trying to holster my rifle when I could simply let go? It IS on a sling ain’t it?
Taking up room on my belt for a silly rifle holster when a proper sling already does that job for you, that’s a waste.
Yeah, this is a solution looking for a problem. I’m an airsofter, and this is too ridiculous even for some of the crap I see guys wear.
It’s less about when you need to transition (since then, as you said, time is of the essence) and more about when you need both hands free to climb, handcuff, search, etc.

Is it wrong that I actually like this? The rifle’s already on a sling for quick transitioning , it simply does the same job as a weapon’s catch. Seems like something to stop it from flopping about, looks like an okay but unnecessary range accessory.
Not wrong. I don’t want one because I have no personal use for one, but I don’t see why this has the troll pit in a near-unanimous uproar. Like you said; weapons catches have been around for a while, and apparently get some usage.
I like how it totally turns you into a bumbling hunchback for that secondary draw.

I have a spinal cord injury and I can’t carry more than 5 pounds with my arms or shoulders I made a rig similar to this so I could carry my rifle at the range since I can’t sling. it if I wasn’t permanently crippled and unable to use a sling I would never even consider something like the derrrp

A solution looking for a problem.
As an operator operating in airsoft operations, I find it ridiculous.
It’s just my opinion after all, but I think a 3-points sling is all you need to have your rifle secured when you want to switch to your secondary.
In airsoft it may be useful to get rid of a “long” rifle which has still ammo in it, for distance-related issues (pistols are less powerful than rifles, and thus are preferred in CQB or other short distances). In real life, I find it less relevant. If your rifle is out of ammo, sling it in your back as it’s no longer useful.

I think the worst part is he’s carrying a stupid AR-15.
That is a short barreled rifle requiring a C3 license and a stamp and that stupid thing still isn’t a practical way of carrying it. A full sized Ar-15 or M4 variant would not work at all.
There is no such thing as a “C3 license”. Also, these and things like them have seen gobs of use by guys who stand around checkpoints all day and don’t want their rifle flopping around. Pretty sure the Israelis use something along the same lines.
As a tactical LE operator, I certainly see use for this. We currently use either home made it other forms of secondary retention for our rifles. The current systems take quite a bit of effort and time to use. Having this system set up so my rifle sits where I need it to and doesn’t move around too much would be invaluable when climbing ladders or going hands on with subjects. Since the OP can only seem to see this as some sort of stand alone “holster” rather than the intended use, it makes me feel like he doesn’t run a rifle for work.
I could care less how it will bear weight, since that is what my sling is for. This is simply to keep my long gun where I put it when I need to have my hands free.
What I would like to see is a model with a retention strap that could hold it more securely than the kydex friction retention alone.
As a 20 year SOF veteran I will absolutely agree that weapon retention is no laughing matter. I have developed, tested, patented, and ran in combat our system. The R2S is a no BS system that has yet to fail me on mission in Afghanistan and training. While our system has multiple uses and a million more coming we have put our systems through real combat vetting it as the only system in the world that can truly do what this product wishes it could. So, is a sling a holster? How does one really define a holster?
Sad part is that if I want to qualify with my dept. to carry my AR pistol off-duty, I’m required to have a holster like this to do it (just to satisfy range requirements). They won’t let me use a drop leg holster or a sling. To shoot a total of 25 rds… I would never walk around with this on my hip.
