gunfire

Admin does some 2A science to show us what getting shot at sounds like:

I feel like this video could have benefited from better audio recording of the gunshots, but it was still interesting.  Nice collection of guns were used too.

8:50 – When he held the mic up to capture the sound better I had flashbacks of this scene from The Jackal:

More than 20 women and children have died and dozens others were injured when traditional celebratory gunfire at a Saudi wedding brought down an electric cable causing a fire to break out.  A total of 23 people – believed to be mostly women – were electrocuted when bullets caused the high-voltage power line to fall on to a metal door at the wedding in eastern Saudi Arabia.

Wow, who ever would have thought something bad would come from dozens of guys firing automatic weapons into the air?  Seems perfectly safe. *eye roll*

Typical that only women and children would have died.  I hope those guys think about that every day for the rest of their lives.

Two great past examples of Saudi’s cheating death with firearms can be seen HERE and HERE.

One evening in the autumn of 1940 bombs fell on the course and Temporary Rules were introduced to allow for the consequences. Dr Goebbels, Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda, used the Club’s Temporary Rules as the theme of a broadcast by William (Lord Haw-Haw) Joyce: “By means of these ridiculous reforms the English snobs try to impress the people with a kind of pretended heroism. They can do so without danger, because, as everyone knows, the German Air Force devotes itself only to the destruction of military targets and objectives of importance to the war effort.” Evidently the Club’s laundry outbuilding was a military target.

You can’t say that the rules aren’t fair.

According to the Journal Pediatrics, children in the most rural areas of the United States are as likely to die by gunfire as those in the biggest cities, a new analysis of nearly 24,000 deaths finds.

The researchers analyzed data on nearly 24,000 gun-related deaths among those 19 and younger from 1999 through 2006. That included about 15,000 homicides, about 7,000 suicides and about 1,400 accidental shootings for the eight-year period.

One problem:

Last time I checked, a person is no longer considered a youth when they turn 18… so why are they including 18 and 19 year olds in the statistics?

Four people were shot and 54 were arrested in New York’s Times Square late Sunday night in an Easter melee some fear was gang-related.

Hundreds of New York City police officers worked to contain the violence, making dozens of arrests and stopping pedestrians to look for weapons, the New York Post reported. One police officer was injured in the knee as he tried to stop the ruckus. A couple of hours later, two more women were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, The Associated Press reported.

Ironic, considering how strict gun laws in NYC are.

Since Easter violence seems to be a yearly occurrence in New York City’s Times Square, it would be socially responsible for the tourist information places to warn visitors.  My guess is they don’t though.  Getting shot would sure put a damper on the rest of a persons holiday.
